Diagonal resize: The frame can be resized diagonally!
Resize grips: It’s now easier to “grip” the edge of the frame to start resizing.

honestly, this makes sense for school students. schools in US are going to chromebooks and microsoft is trying to beat google at its game.

But cheap price of chromebook is the primary reason the chromebooks are so popular at schools. Closed down software being the second.

But microsoft doesn't have cheap laptops when compared to chromebooks used
 
chromebooks are popular because they are maintenance free and everything is stored on the cloud. you can essentially login with your id on any chromebook and continue working on your assignments. good luck replicating that model with office 365.
