Last time, I think it was allowing only via "upgrade" method, hence I had to install on top on the Win 7...

i remember reading that microsoft fixed the 8.1 installer to accept windows 8 key. and i think it did work for me when i got a new machine last year. cannot confirm though

hehe. i think windows 8 key should work fine on using windows 8.1 iso. microsoft was being a dick with the 8.1 update. there was no fucking reason to issue a new key when the update was completely free.

I am not seeing on screen display for volume slider and positioning of the video. Which I guess is managed by the GUI. Plus SMPlayer now uses something called MPV by default.

In mplayer - shortcut key to display OSD is o (small oh).

o - Toggle OSD states: none / seek / seek + timer / seek + timer + total time.

Try it. Dont know if it will work with SMplayer.

You could try reinstalling Win 7

And they are being dicks asking uses to upgrade first. They should allow users to migrate their W7/8/8.1 licenses to W10 on a fresh install.

SMPlayer has their own config panel for shortcuts so it overtakes mplayers I suppose. In any case, o is not doing anything. Plus I think it uses mpv by default these days.
