Hi everyone,i don't know whether its a proper place to put this query. i have some doubts regarding choice of connection. i have a 1 mbps Unltd MTNL Trib connection at home. i am having absolutely no problems with it. but nevertheless thought of taking a jump into the ongoing 3G bandwagon  i would try to be as brief as possible while presenting my doubts to you. here they are :-1) is using a 3G broadband service recommended for unlimited usage ? i have read that unltd usage unnecessarily burdens the whole network in a locality, proving cumbersome to other users. kindly be a little descriptive.2) which one is better ? tata photon +, or docomo 3G broadband ? any other option ?what speeds can i expect from them while downloading torrents ?3) any users in thane(w), near ghodbunder road ? if yes, kindly advice.4) lastly, final words, whether i should better stick to MTNL unltd connection, or should make a move towards 3G.experienced users, please suggest. awaiting your responses...

Bro u are having one of the best plan at the moment if you want unlimited download. And the question about using tata photon + or Tata Docomo 3G these option are like a suicide for those who wan't unlimited download. In Photon+ u will get 10 gb limit only(after that speed 144kbps(18kBps) in the same price of Rs 1000-11000(incl. taxes) what you are paying now. In docomo 3G you will pay 1500-2000+taxes(3.6-21mbps speed) for a 15gb limit then your speed will go 128kbps(16kBps) which will be a shock !! At present you are having 1 mbps without any fair usage policy & you would have been getting 120-130 kBps transfer rate using download manager or torrents. Thiough in photon+ & in docomo 3G you can get better speed around 2 mbps or more depending upon the distance of tower. Also there is a frequent disconnection problem with all wireless connection. If you are a heavy downloader who downloads more than 15-20 gb per month than you should better stay on your existing plan.

oh thanks a lot for your reply ! you basically confirmed my apprehensions

i had seen the plans of docomo 3G, and the one i had chosen (1 mbps unltd for 1000/-) stated data usage as 5 gb at peak speed. i guessed it as FUP under cover (since no explanation was provided about it...for newbies like me, it would've been easy to get tricked). but you've now explained the same thing that i was thinking ! and yes, I AM a heavy downloader, and thus this FUP crap would suck big time for me, no doubt about that :ishock: !

thanks a lot again for your enlightening post. i guess its MTNL all the way for me :thumb: !

Stick with MTNL wired unless you wanna commit broadband suicide. :P

Is BSNL Mobile available in Thane? If yes, then you can buy BSNL 3G as a secondary connection.

do not go for Unlimited in 3G, it never happen , for publicity bsnl did that things for few more months , after no more unlimited , or if u get it then u can not even get 512kbpsI recommend u Wimax , if BSNL wimax is availible in town , then go ahead , because in Rs750, u got unlimited upto 2mbps (they said minimum 512kbps) Is MTNL started the wimax service yet

Stick with MTNL.And BTW I think Tata Photon+ is 5 GB before FUP kicks in. Pity they don't tell you this when they try to sell you the connection because after 5GB, you are at a pitiful 144kbps. You can walk faster to the download server :)

thank you all you guys ! i had trashed the idea of thinking over 3G broadband after reading the 1st reply to my question itself. subsequent replies from all of you have made my conviction stronger.thanks again !

Whts the downtime for mtnl connection in Delhi... and whts the avg time they take responding to it... I'm thinkin of moving (from AIrtel 4mbps) to mtnl 1mbps unld plan....... max budget is 1399 (1700 what it comes out to be) I'm currently paying for Airtel 4mbps ... but bec of Fair Usage Policy I'm at 256Kbps for more than 20 days.... ya, I use to consume 25GB in 10 days.... earlier they relaxed it to 50-60GB (In d first month) and now in the 3rd month of plan activation they restricted it to 25GB without even notifying me.....

Also... can I use my existing modem (beetel 450TC1) with the new mtnl connection?.... and can I ask mtnl to reinstate the previously disc number and associate it with the new broadband account???
