ok. That means Airtel n Hutch have two types of data cards. One that will directly be plugged into your m/c and will have no link with mobile whatsoever. The other will route the connection from mobile to computer through bluetooth/data cable and your phone will have to be GPRS/EDGE compatible for this. My phone (Sony T610) as you said willn't be very effective in terms of speed if I use it for the GPRS/EDGE conn. So the only wireless option left to me is the normal data card of Airtel and Hutch in order to get decent enuf speed.

These data cards are mobiles in themselves, you don't need a separate mobile. SIM card directly goes into data card, and data card goes into PCMCIA.

or USB port of notebook or desktop PC. (Of course, then it has to be a USB card not a PCMCIA Card ).
