I am a new user to BSNL broadband. ( in Home; in work I use VSNL)I am using D-Link 802 modem.Browsing or downloading is ok with sufficient speed. But when I chat using yahoo messenger, audio goes dead frequently. Sometimes messenger sign outs or sometimes audio returns after a hold and resume. The connection seems to be not disconnecting.Any clues? Any special setting in modem configuration related to audio and video chatting ?ThanksRoy

Test audio qualities in Yahoo Audio Wizard.
Check in Control Panel " sound and audio devices ".
If the speed is low: both video and audio will malfunction.
Minimum 256Kbps speed required. for either mode.
Check audio codec selected.

also make sure that you are not downloading or uploading anything during the conversation. stop doing any form of data transfer.

just to make sure , check that the DSL light in your modem does not blink.. also if your system is on the slower side , make sure you dont run too many applications at a time!!

Thanks for the reply.I have checked all the mentioned. While downloading the speed varies between 300kbps to 500kbps. while browsing also good response. But the 'audio codec' essbebe mentioned, where I can check or select proper codec?btwSometimes at peak hours net is absolutely at 'dead speed'. My location is almost 6 kms away from telephone exchange. Also is there any effect is a DSL connection if the traffic increases? In my work I am using a VSNL @ speed of 333kbps or something. It always has the same speed, no issues in chatting or anything(Webcam sometimes freezzes but that is acceptable considering the cost expended). Peak hour or not it is absolutely stable. But my work is closer(.5kms) from a vsnl router or hub or something. Is the distance creates the problem in my home BSNL connection which is actually specified at higher speeds than my work connection? But why then it effects speed only in peak hours and chatting always? Thanks

For Yahoo Messenger Audio this codec is recommended.
DSP Group TrueSpeech(TM) Audio CODEC
