I totally agree with all these posts, only discovery, ngc hd and star cricket event related are tru hd 1080, rest of the 30 are only upscaled type, i didn't find significant difference in the picture qualityi'll post the screen shots by evening.

Have a friend in Tata Sky, technical division. He had informed me at the time Dish Tru H was launched that except for 4-5 channels, all other channels are upscaled by Zee as they do not have the transponders & bandwidth to provide Full HD in so many channels. Tata Sky has the highest no. of transponders and still they are having a tough time in getting other HD channels.

One of the primary reasons I went with Dish DTH back in 2005 almost when they launched was due to their expertise and alliance with the DishTV in the US. Atleast I assumed so. From the beginning I have liked their business model and services they provide. TataSky and others are late entrants, not to say that they dont know what they are doing just that I think DishTV knows this business better. My 2 cents...

its a very clear marketing strategy cooked up by Zee group to the unsuspecting audience. imagine a guy has brought a 54" inch LED tv and the shop would have told its FULL HD and painted a rosy picture. he is now informed that HD is possible if you either have Bluray or have a dth connection with HD stb. he will try to decide for himself which has large number of HD. obivously he will choose Dish DTH (they never specify if the channels are upscaled or not). if the people in forum are debating on the topic Just imagine the advantage the Zee group can take for minting money in the name of HD.its high time that TRAI should interfere in this matter

Exactly.....And there are few other policies of Zee TV as a group, that piss me off - in worst scenarios, i can buy a Reliance Digital TV, but not Dish TV.

Right! Only NG HD, Discovery HD, Star Sports HD and ESPN HD are TRUE HD!!! 'Saas Bahu' soaps aren't worth the money to broadcast them in true HD format. This kind of bandwidth for HD broadcasts doesn't come cheap. If they converted even the 30 channels that Dish TV claims are 'HD' you would be paying close to Rs 1000/-pm for them!

Now, do I wanna see a 'bahu' shedding crocodile tears for half a 30 minute episode in HD???? No way!!

Yesterday i installed the new TruHD from DishTV ( already i am using SUNHD with 8 HD channels ) I decided to get dishtv as they are advertising that they are providing 30 HD channels. Now I am getting only 4 HD channels at Dishtv including Star Cricket HD ( and they say after the ac activation i will get 30 channels ) I will update the thread once my ac gets activated.

I wasnt talking about Soap channels, I was talking about HBO HD, Pogo HD, Cartoon Network HD, WB HD, Sony Pix HD, Zee Cinema HD, Zee TV HD. Are these upscaled? I meant the ones they have marked as HD in their service offering.
I was assuming Zee TV and Zee TV HD are similar in clarity because it is their own channel.
I am not an expert and so was asking this question.

The channel difference can be found out with a naked eye.The conversion of SD video signal is performed by some SD DVD / HD or High Definition televisions. A mathematical calculation used to pass a resolution to another.
