@Dummy Hi,Nope they were black. Wonder what could be taking so long after doing the hardwork of laying the fiber and installing the box.

I called up Airtel and asked about the 40 Mbps plans for Chennai.
CC agent told me 20Mbps is possible.
That didn't sound right to me, so I asked for confirmation again. I was told 24 Mbps, then 20 Mbps.

Apparently homes a little distance away can get 40 Mbps, but I can only get 20 Mbps.

Then I asked about upload speed and type of technology (ADSL or VDSL). She could not give me a number but she told me that upload speed was 'good'. She did not know about the type of technology used. I was told that a local partner/rep would come and pick up the Address proof and payment and give more details about the plans, type of technology etc.

When the rep came over after a few days, I was told that I would get 8 Mbps down and '4 Mbps' up.
(For those who are unaware, 4 Mbps up is not possible with ADSL). I asked about the technology used. He did not know.
I told him that I was promised 20 Mbps. He told me the speed tiers: 8 Mbps, 16 Mbps and 40 Mbps. 20 Mbps was not possible. No one in the area had 40 Mbps yet, but if airtel upgraded the area, I would be automatically get 40 Mbps. But only 8 Mbps (on ADSL) is available for now.

I had to decline. Pity.

Any idea what exactly it means to "Do AT" my airtel sales guy said, since AT has not been done even if they give connection it won't work. And it would take a few days for that to be done. I'm left wondering what is AT

@uberjon Which place in Chennai, i had a different experience. One executive said upto 8 Mbps is feasible another said 4 or 2 and in the last no feasibility for my area lol

This is in Raja Annamalaipuram (R.A. Puram). CC execs may be limited by their tools, or training or whatever. Sad but true.

My broadband got migrated today. Finally!

A new Huawei modem was installed. The same old copper cable is being used. I guess some port migration was done at the backend. And voila!
