Rumored Reliance Jio Fiber Broadband Plans

Well i think i made it pretty clear in the beginning that i am comparing only broadband. And if your argument is that since US customer pays $100 for broadband and Indians should shut up and stop complaining about the prices then i have nothing else to say.

I think its better to talk about what is possible profitably by comparing to countries like Japan, Korea. It is possible to make internet even cheaper here than those countries because of low wages of employees.
Though even in countries like US internet would be 'cheaper' despite higher prices due to higher wages.

Broadband, especially ultra high speed broadband is a technology used by the rich, highly educated and tech savvy people. They are a much larger percentage in the US than in India where a lot of people don't even have homes, running water, electricity, computers and so on. Broadband can't be taken in isolation. If an ISP expects that 50% of the population can pay Rs 5000 for 1Gbps, it will invest in providing it. If it knows that just 2% even have any home broadband even at Rs 199, they have to devise other plans. Do you get same service and quality of food and ambiance at a roadside place and a 5 star hotel? Why not? The paying capacity of the clientele and their awareness of hygiene, standards etc.
Anyway, let's not hijack this thread.

IF Jio Provides 1TB to 3TB FUP It should be enough for 99.99 of users.

Disclaimer.

It's For the Home Users. Not for BUSINESS users.

And Even for Small business users 3TB will be enough.

Not denying what you said. A good 100 mbps is better than a shit 1 gbps, but again, we don't know what's to come. And all of us are guessing, and having a wee bit of fun. But then the questioning starts like a school teacher - what will you do with 1 gbps ? Use it, of course, what else. Have enough bandwidth that nothing feels choked while doing simultaneous stuff ? Watch porn, netflix and prime and download PS and Steam and Switch games at the same time, while video calling my brother at a different part of the world ?

The options are limitless.

My wish still remains. Fingers crossed. 5th Sept can't come soon ! :D

guess =/ wish

guess should be reasonable and realistic.

If you have used 100 mbps unlimited for 6 months you would run out of stuff to download and prioritize a stable connection over speed.

Unless you are uploading multiple popular torrents, its uses are very very limited even for next 5 years. May be later when there will be 8k or 16k stuff.

It is at least a hundred times more advanced than India. Car ownership is 900 per 1000 people, while India is less than 20 per 1000. Per capita income is 60,000 $ vs. 2000, practically 100% tv ownership vs. 20% for India. Home broadband pentration of over 90% vs. just 2% for India. Universal 24 hour power, water, sewage, aircon since about 1920s.
All tech you talk of like broadband, tv, routers are invented or designed in the Silicon Valley. Where are Google, Microsoft, Linksys, Cisco etc?

So compare in that context.

So I did not want to go this route, but since you brought other metrics in the system, I would say US is one of the shittiest places to live. Gun ownership laws are fucked, you can be killed in a cafe, in a school, in a movie theater and a host of other places even when you have no grudge with anybody (unlike India when most of these shootings happen due to politics, land, money, and are rarely mass shootings etc.).
Add to that the insane abortion laws (I'm in the medical profession, so I've an insight into this) where a would-be mother cannot even chose whether she wants to have a baby or not (even after rape in many states, yes sire !), and you have a country whose currency is the only thing going for it. They have a heavy military presence everywhere, and arm twist most of the other countries into agreeing with them. The day USD losses it's shine, the country will resemble a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Back to broadband, would urge you to read more. As mentioned in one of the previous posts, the 95 mbps number is inflation due to high speeds in limited areas, and barely 5-10 mbps in most of the country (in the ISPs defense, US is a huge country, population density is low in many areas, and thus laying a fiber is not the cheapeast option). The ISPs lobby hard against getting competition in their area, heck even Google Fiber had to withdraw from some areas due to political and lobbying pressure. Comcast, Verizon, AT&T etc are some of the most hated companies in the US. And here I quite like Airtel, and to some extent, even Jio. Local ISPs in my area are also pretty good, with low downtimes.

Jio Fiber's success and failure will entirely depend on the FUP it gives rather than the speed. In my knowledge anybody in India is ready to take 50Mbps 1TB FUP. So if Jio has done enough research, they should think about the FUP. And if its Unlimited (as one youtuber said), then Jio will destroy all other companies.

I'm sure 1 gbps is very relevant and useful for people with certain usage.

Like for example I hear video games these days are like 50 gb packs and what not. Plus cloud online storage if someone is a photography/video afficionado and has lots of pics/videos to upload/download to cloud storage.

Earlier with ADSL broadband you wait hours for your data transfer to complete now with 100 mbps it is a few minutes. With 1 gbps it will further drop down to few seconds waiting time. Imagine the productivity boost for busy people.

Even though I am very satisfied with 100 mbps speeds, I would also take up a 1 gbps plan if it is affordable and maybe even a little bit higher priced for my budget for the low waiting times to upload/download things like windows/linux ISOs and what not.

I disagree. I am one of those people for whom speed is more important than FUP :D
