Government got an order from the court probably on directions from the anti-terror people.

the courts had previously directed the government to only block specific urls and not complete domains. ignored.
modi ji tweeted his support for freedom of speech on the web. when he was in opposition. his own party representative and not a representative of the ministry of telecom made the official statement on behalf of the government today on twitter.
no official government statement was released through the PIB regarding this ban.
bjp only decided to make an official statement once the blocked site list was leaked on the web.
the ban has been in place since december 17 apparently. this government is so transparent that it only took 2 weeks for it to become public knowledge.

github and sourceforge srrly !!!! wtf these have to with terror , don't tell me the bad guys upload some open sourced software project !

edit : i have https everywhere installed and can open all of them , so much for blocking they can't even do that properly .

github can be used to host textual content. i think it has been used to work on constitutions and laws in the past.
sourceforge has been targeted for hosting an open source software that can be used to create your own install of pastebin.
