Hello guys,

After reading lots of +ve reviews about BSNL 3G I have decided to go for 3G data plan. Today I went to local BSNL office to inquire about the data plans. They gave me info about all the plans. But they also told me that it is compulsory to buy datacard from them, they won't issue JUST the SIM card. But I don't want to waste Rs. 2500 on their crappy Linktop modem, I'll buy Huawei UMG 1831 from local vendor.

What can I do? Is there any alternative? please help me! I really want 3G internet :(

Well tell them that you want to buy only 3g sim. and do frc. that's it. i have purchesd sim only and then purchesd my datacard from ebay

FRC = First Recharge Coupon

You should buy a SIM from any local shop, it may take 1 days for 3G activation but there's no reason that it would not be activated.

You can do a online recharge from portal.bsnl.in or you can visit BSNL office and do it.

It would be best to check the speed by spending 10-20 Rs. talk value and then go for a expensive pack.

I would suggest you to first do FRC, if you get some talktime it ok, if not then put in rs.10-20 recharge and you should test 3G speed and then only spend on 2000 or 4200 pack.

I saved 2500 this way, as i was about to recharge and found 3G is a history in my town.

can some one tell me whether the BSNL 3G plans are similar all through out the country. Here in pune they say recharge with 4200 for 6 months. Now, I have 3G sims that I have got from Andhra..if I recharge the same amount....do i get the 6 month plan? Please advice

Cheetah, You can recharge for 4200/- and get the plan, currently Data Roaming is free, But confirm from BSNL office before you spend such huge amount.Remember roaming plan can be modified at later date, as lots of private operators are coming up, nobody knows what they'll modify at a later date.to be on safer side, use the SIM from region you happen to live most of the time, this way you'll minimize the chances of getting charged for roaming.
