Now there is again a difference here between 3G and 4G which is bandwidth. One of the major advantage of LTE is bandwidth. Will get back soon with details.
In India the only difference will be that 4G players have 4x more spectrum. otherwise the BW diff. between LTE & HSPA+ used by 3G players is not much. apart frm this LTE has ultra low latency to its kitty....

My expectation is Infotel would launch plans that are similar to the plans being offered by wired connections like Airtel and BSNL. But if they do launch a 10/GB as the report suggested, then this would surely revolutionize broadband in India. And let's face it if Mukhesh Ambani can't bring a revolution in Indian broadband then no one can.

Very well said. It was Late Dhirubhai Ambani who revolutionized the Indian Telecom and AFAIK till now Reliance is using only 10% of their Data Bandwidth.

But the big question still remains when will the ass***** launch themselves, its really a little of too much wait......:dejection:

Sibbal had pointed some good things in this article.

Sibal expects 4G services launch by 2012 - Times Of India

The minister said that mobile phone should be seen as instrument of empowerment and all public services should be part of the network whether it be health, rural development, education and others.

"You can bring in device but you don't have the content . there is no point of having that device. One of the biggest problem you are facing in the country is that data is just not available," Sibal said.

Where else is 4G already in existence ? USA ? what are the data plans over there ? Did their 3G plans mirrored ours, as to chances of same thing happening for 4G ?

Although there is too much of speculated news of 4G than real one, still was lucky to get an article which have all the answers to your questions.

List of countries where 4G is available : GSM World Coverage Map- GSM Country List by frequency bands

This article talk about Sprint 4G of USA: 3G vs. 4G: Real-world speed tests - Computerworld

Speed:
It says that Sprint 3G have an average speed of 550Kbps which is quite high in India. And regarding 4G it says, Average Sprint 4G speed is 4.1 Mbps and the highest Download Speed noticed was 11.2 Mbps. So comparing with Indian 3G speed, I am sure 4G too would be having much higher speed.

The 4G network delivered an average download speed of 4.1Mbit/sec. -- about what you'll get with a wired DSL or cable modem connection. It was seven times faster than Sprint's 3G service, which averaged 550Kbit/sec. I received a peak 4G download speed of 11.2Mbit/sec. at one location, nearly 10 times faster than the 1.2Mbit/sec. of throughput available on Sprint's 3G network at the same location two minutes later.

Pricing:
Regarding Pricing it talks about $60 4G/3G bundled plan in which 4G was unlimited and 3G was limited to 5 GB.

I used the $60 4G/3G Mobile Broadband Connection Plan, which includes unlimited use of 4G data but limits 3G usage to 5GB per month.

----------

This values are of course standardized to India as one should expect a lot more active users per cell site than western countries Or in simple words people use wireless medium for torrent dwnlds /wireline bb replacement and all such stuff which lower the per user bandwidth..

Technology3G4G
Frequency band1.8 - 2.5GHz2 - 8GHz
Bandwidth5-20MHz5-20MHz
Data rateUp to 2Mbps100Mbps moving - 1Gbps stationary
AccessW-CDMAVSF-OFCDM and VSF-CDMA
FECTurbo-codesConcatenated codes
SwitchingCircuit/PacketPacket

The existing 3G W-CDMA standard will be replaced in 4G by VSF-OFCDM and VSF-CDMA. VSF-OFCDM allows extremely high downlink connections, both indoors and outdoors. VSF-CDMA provides high-efficiency, high-speed packet transmissions for the uplink.

The 4G adoption of concatenated FEC (Forward Error Correction) will allow much larger data packets to be transmitted and at the same time reduce the bit error rate. This will increase the overall data through-put.

One of the main advantages that 4G technology will have over 3G is higher data rates. This will benefit the end user by allowing faster access to multimedia and video while on the move.

Thanks for the detailed info. I was searching yesterday regd 4G and it seems sprint has stopped their unlimited plans. So I was wondering if 4G is launched here will it really change the broadband scene or will it be like 3G which is freaking costly at the moment.Higher speeds but lower data.Same old story ... damn I am started to feel hopeless regd the broadband scene in India :(

Costing of 4G is less, so undoubtedly consumer pricing will be less, almost half than 3G.

----------

Augure had announced that it will launch its services my Year End and Reliance Infotel is expected to launch next year as per latest Kapil Sibal Statement. Lets wait and watch . Hope 4G becomes success for B2G, B2B and B2C too. Then only it can change the Broadband face of India.
