Aadhaar linkage to banks is facilitating crimes.

You must not share Aadhaar and its OTP with anybody
While the deadlines have been extended, fraudsters are trying to take advantage of the earlier deadline of 31 March to call individuals and extract data from them, which can further be used to commit fraud. If you get a call asking for any bank-related details, do not disclose anything.

Never share details over a call
Fraudsters keep changing their approach to get details from people over calls. You should be aware that no bank or financial institution would ask for sensitive details like your debit or credit card number, bank account number, card expiry, CVV or ATM PIN or an OTP.
If you get an OTP, you must physically enter this on the Web interface yourself. When linking Aadhaar, always use official channels like the bank’s or financial institution’s website or mobile app, even though the deadline has been extended indefinitely for now.
The best option is to not link Aadhaar with bank a/c.

Fraudsters rob Delhi man of Rs 1 lakh: How it happened and how to stay safe
Speaking on the type of crime Pavan Duggal, a New Delhi-based Cyber Crime expert told Zee Business online, "The crime was done through a malware attack. The fraudsters first found the Aadhaar number of the victim. Once the Aadhaar number is available, you can fish out all information as it has your address, date of birth, father's name, etc." Duggal said that if one has the Aadhar number of somebody, which is attached or not attached to the bank account number, it doesn't matter for the cyber criminals.
Asked about the precautions to ensure safety from such economic offense Duggal simply suggested, "Don't reveal your Aadhaar Card, PAN card or any other important credentials to anyone. Download anti-malware software on your desktop, laptop, Android or Smartphone whatever you are using to avoid fish out of data."
Not enrolling to Aadhaar seems to be a better and safer option.
