Aadhaar Number is basically being pushed as a replacement for Pan Card

Can someone raise a RTI query:- "Aadhaar is voluntary for whom?" i.e. for what percentage of Indian population is Aadhaar voluntary to declare "Aadhaar is voluntary".
As per the various diktats almost everybody is required to have Aadhaar ID for one reason or another.

While we continue to wait for a favorable review of the judgement upholding PAN-Aadhaar linking, many citizens are opposing this rule in the spirit of civil disobedience against enrolling in a project which poses a lifelong threat for one’s personal security. There is much evidence that raises serious concerns about potential loss of identity, fraud (including identity fraud), and privacy. More recently, on 26 February, 2019, the Times of India reported that the UIDAI had to launch a probe into a privacy breach and misuse of data of 3.7 crore voters in Andhra Pradesh.)

We urge those among you concerned about the violation of your rights in this coercive enrolling in Aadhaar and linking of existing IDs to it, to use and share this draft letter widely, to use this send a letter to the CBDT by Speedpost and email.

well the deadline is march 31. like all the previous aadhaar related deadlines that were pretty much extended.
the threat is that they can suspend your pan if you do not link it to aadhaar till march 31. like all the threats in the past.
but it's kind of idiotic. because aadhaar is already mandatory to file IT returns for the current year. so the linkage can automatically happen when you file your return.

i do not think anything is going to happen if you do not link the two by march 31. but the threat is always there. i finally got my aadhaar earlier this year. i have not linked it to my pan yet. not sure if i would do it before march 31.
