So basically one iPhone of 65000 Rs is worth 220 GB of 4G data. That still looks insanely expensive.

My metered Airtel wireline connection surpassed 3 TB in last 3 years. I paid around 30000 Rs total over 3 years.

Yes, RJio has to deliver cheaper data. The speed is not of prime importance. Its the stability of speed (even if its lower than full potential) and affordability of Data will be the key to success of 4G in India.

It's not expensive for people who make more than a lakh rupees per month. Even if they use 10GB per month, it is just 3000 rupees for pretty decent internet speeds.

4G LTE is not for everyone. But it is great to have if you have a use for it and you can pay for it. For the rest of the folks, they can do WhatsApp on EDGE.

I think our point of discussion about internet is strongly connected to affordability for common man.

Expensive internet data will be a failure in India. Marketing strategy is not just about capturing the rich consumers. Its about capturing common man which is the biggest consumer base in India.

Expensive Internet will be a failure for consumer, telecom industry & for nation itself.

And Digital revolution is not possible if you are reserving new technology solely for use of Rich consumers.

Common man got rich from the sale of the spectrum. He celebrated it with the Government of India. He gets that money through disappearing subsidies.

Common man didn't get rich. Those who plunder public treasury got rich. I know you are mocking "stupid common man".

Lets be serious about the issue. People deserve economic development. Development of internet sector is important part of it.

you definitely missed the sarcasm in that post. i do not expect operators to give 4g for cheap when the government squeezed them out for tons of money in the name of leasing out public resources. they paid the money. they need to recover it. that's it. they are not out to do charity.

Which brings me to my point i made earlier.

Govt needs to have moratorium on 3G/4G spectrum payments. That means Telecom players who bought 3G & 4G spectrum should be given relief by exempting them for making their pending spectrum fee until period of next 10 years. That will improve the balance sheets of telecom companies so they could invest more freely in 3G/4G Infrastructure development sectors as well as Wireline internet.

It will also create a business friendly environment & boost investor confidence. Subsequently TRAI should continue to raise minimum Broadband speed so as to ensure consumers are getting the benefit.

Govt have to stop using spectrum as a milking cow. And remember, this policy of using spectrum as a milking cow was started by BJP.

Whoever said that auction can not be the only route for resource allocation was right. In fact this sector should have been opened free for all after paying up of a nominal license fee. Spectrums should have never been auctioned. Public has been taken in for a ride by BJP and the then opposition parties who used 2g scams to convince public that auctions were in public's best interest.

Yes. I agree.

I am a strong critique of Congress. But Congress was right despite scam committed by A Raja. Auctioning of strategic asset like Spectrum at high rates will ultimately lead to burden on consumers. That's what happened.

Lets not give Spectrum for free to telecom industry. Lets not auction/sell it at very high prices. Instead sell spectrum at optimum fixed price. At least 3 times below what Govt sold it in auction.

And when Telecom sector picks up growth. Govt's Tax revenues from it will also grow and automatically it will be benefit everyone in long term. Consumers will get lower prices. Telecom operators will get better profits and more customers. Govt will get good revenue from Telecom growth.

You see, BJP are party of incompetent scum. They also realize that Telecom sector is in shambles due to auctioning process. But they can't simply reverse it because they built their politics by fooling people about 2G scam.
