if it was in usa.. he cud have filed case and got some cash for continuous harassment. here it can be done but needs patience. may be he shud just threaten them or email them that if u make any more calls i will take u to court.
That's nonsense.... people here have a very warped image of the legal system and suing in the States. Just because one reads some 30 word snippet in the newspaper once in a while about someone suing McDonalds for not printing 'Beware: This coffee is hot' doesn't mean that their whole country and culture is trigger happy with lawsuits. Lawsuits are serious business and cost a LOT. The only difference is that people are a little more vocal there, and people here have a higher threshold of tolerating nonsense.
The kind of 'harassment' as you call it that Vivek is facing is not unheard of in the States. This kind of rubbish happens there also.
Vivek, as long as you have some kind of evidence that you disconnected their services (receipt, letter, e-mail etc.) you don't need to worry about anything. You send a letter to the company (call them up and ask them for an address for their legal department), and (politely) describe the situation to them, and request them to rectify it at the earliest, failing which you will "consider legal options." For good measure, you could throw in a photocopy of the receipt / letter / e-mail. 99% your problem will end there.
As for the 1% chance that they don't do anything - as Sushubh said, consumer courts in India are not that bad at all. Google it in that event.
And don't decry a whole company for one bad experience. I can guarantee you that every single telecom company in the world has at least 1 consumer who has had a similar experience.
