revoking license, imposing penalty, or regulating ISP/MSp is not that easy in india...

They can't even enforce DND (do not disturb) policy in last 12-15 years (since mobile launch) in india...

All mobile users are crying for that... In fact Cell operators cell DND numbers data separately at premium rate and everyone knows that including TRAI and DOT...

If they can not do anything for such open things forget about Monitoring Airtel where they have to actually go and check Airtel servers by visiting their office...

Airtel can do whatever they want, nobody gonna stop them unless they make a public statement... and wile sitting at home and experiencing slow speed randomly we can not say that Airtel is doing it ...

----------

To Add another line , not everyone is honest and Customer friendly / fair like you....

I bet you will change your fair/ friendly policy sooner or later because once you launch users will try to exploit them...

This is less a provider problem and more of a "who has the list of numbers" problem. Many of the problematic call centres are run by people who are more than a little "shady" and who will collect phone numbers from anywhere they can by whatever means they can.

The telemarketing problem is not even limited to India - in my local news there has been articles about telemarketing scams even to NZ and Australia from Indian call centres, and calls seem to be made with automatic sequential dialers which will just dial from a block of numbers (like 012-1234-5678 then 012-1234-5679, 012-1234-5680 and so on) in hopes that they reach a person.

Some data is collected automatically and some with some human testing taking random samples but in no case do they need to go to Airtel's offices: they're checking the quality of connections for end users.

OTOH, every ISP has people stationed inside the NOC for the purpose of monitoring (as in "listening") to net traffic, but from memory I think these ones are from the DoT, not the TRAI.

Airtel can do whatever they want, nobody gonna stop them unless they make a public statement... and wile sitting at home and experiencing slow speed randomly we can not say that Airtel is doing it ...

TRAI makes public statements all the time. Most people don't get what they're on about though.

It's quite probable and unavoidable that some users will try to exploit our offerings - that will happen in any country. However, we also think that most exploitative users may also be put off by our pricing in the first place and both the policies and the pricing itself should offset any potential... troublemaking?

As as update: Sundays are apparently non-discrimination-days for torrent traffic. *Yay*Thank you Airtel for messing with my TV shows download schedule.

Airtel first messed up by giving me a modem they don't make . after 4-5 days that modem stopped working and after 3 days of constant calls by me to customer care , they had to replace it but they told me they don't provide that modem to customers . the engineer who gave that modem to me even fought on phone with me that he didn't give me that modem. this happened during the time when i complained about throttling and a senior official called me and said sorry about both issues but as i was really angry, i told them that i want my connection terminated along with my neighbour's ( both 4mbps 150 gb connections). i recieved my modem the next day with full refund on my last modem and 50% price on the new modem (only 350 bucks) . since that day ( 30th of last month ) , no torrent throttling has taken place on my connection or any other connection @ my society ( i know 3 guys who have airtel in my society). but upload speeds are always throttled to 20 kBps on torrents .

@jazzy and @burner ........ my friends in pune who have problem of torrent throttled during day have all pitched in and bought a seedbox from feral ( costs about 720 bucks ) . it is used by five people and they download about a TB per month and seed that much too .seed box is of great use for downloading large 10gb-60gb torrents who have really low number of seeds .

What is the deal with these seed boxes and how do they work?

You can buy 100 or 1000 mbit servers from EU. Linux is usually the OS installed. If you want a windows server, you will have to pay for the windows license.

You can set up a torrent client, webui and ftpd on this server. You can use this server as a seed box to download and upload torrents. You can just ftp the files to your home. You don't have to use a torrent client nor seed from home.

Thanks for the info Balajik. From what you say I understand that this is just like any other server/web hosting server but here the control is in our hands. It seems to be much more convenient than VPN only if the setup of torrent client and other things is easy and manageable for beginners like me.Anyways, I can pool in if anybody from Gurgaon/Delhi is keen and can help in the initial setup.

i have a seedbox with 120 GB HDD and unlimited bandwidth(bronze) on seedbox.fr . if you want to pitch in , we can buy one with 200 GB hdd and unlimited bandwidth .i'm in delhi so you can contact me .

setting up a seedbox on a linux server takes 20 mins with a remote desktop, torrent client, stfp etc, but for most users taking a whole server is too much $ wise so it is better to buy slots from reputed seedbox providers who set up everything for you. you can go from feral, evoboxes, xirvik, they have good support, very good prices and ranges of slots and servers from entire world so you can take your pick.

the only problem is that feral uses google checkout which doesn't accept debit cards( atleast the ones i entered ). i like paypal for all my payments .....feral is the only one not supporting paypal .

feel free to send a mail to Joshua or lemon as he is known , send the mail off from site or chat to him on their irc network, he will take paypal too. btw get off from seedbox.fr they are a dodgy company and have closed and opened under various names over the last 3 years, their last name was dedibox.fr, check out fst's section about them
