have you tried any other web browser? IE or Firefox. Chrome might have issues with the Java plugin. it is still not widely supported.

Hello there, Admin. :-). thank you for replying. Yes you are right Chrome might have issues with the java plugin, though I would like to add here that chat room- 1, 3 and 4 are flash based chat rooms. I should try these chat rooms with other browsers too. Currently I have only two browsers installed in my system, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 and Google Chrome 2.0.172.43. I'll try opening these chat rooms in the IE and get back to you.

Do you think improper earthing could cause disconnection as suggested by a member?

I had connected to these chat rooms last whole night too (using Google chrome), upon checking in the morning most of the rooms were disconnected, including mIRC. ( i had connected to a channel in DALnet IRC Network, which had got disconnected too around 5-6 times.)

@admin and everyone else.

Meanwhile, I would like to add some details, the broadband engineer suggested there could be a virus, malware etc., in the system. I have performed a full system scan using Symantec Antivirus full version 10.1.1.6000 with up-to-date virus definition files and components and also performed a full system scan using Malwarebytes' Anti-malware ( latest version and definition) and found no virus or malware. I am currently running Bitdefender Online Scanner just to be sure if there is no virus in the pc.

google chrome is already in version 3 for stable users. check on that. i tend to stay on dev channel for the latest updates.

Did you verify if the connection had got dropped. ie. if the dsl link went down or not. You could have easily isolated by checking the WAN IP Address as I mentioned in my previous post (What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Internet Speed Test, IP Info, plus more).

There is no point in struggling until and unless you identify if the dsl link itself is dropping or is it just packet drop in your connection. If DSL Link is dropping then its just the physical connections that has to be checked and worked from your house to exchange port.
So first identify this :thumb:

Hi, AjayJP! :-). Thank you for responding once again and reminding me to check if the dsl link went down or not, which I had overlooked so conveniently. Lol.
Well, the next time I shall note down the WAN IP address while logging into all these chat rooms and other applications and servers, and check the IP again after the disconnection ( if it happens ). the reason i am sounding a little positive about disconnections is, i got a call from the engineer few hours back saying he had changed some "port", and when he was changing that port the internet connection went down fot some 15-20 mins. i was not there to receive the call, but i think he must have referred to DSLAM or something port. so lets hope the connection is ok now.

So if the IP doesn't change after disconnections to these chat rooms, does it mean the line, modem, splitter, ethernet cable, and all the other components are fine?

by the way, did you see the 5 chat room screen shots I uploaded and what do you think about this? is it normal to get disconnected this way, though not as often as once every 10-15 mins, but atleast once in an hour or two and that too everyday?

and about the dsl link going down, I think i might miss it when the DSL link ( yellow) on the modem goes down, so can I just check the Ip before and after the disconnection?

thank you :-) :thumb:

Hi :-) . Which server and the channel name?

Hey! Morning! I had many disconnections this morning, and verified if the dsl link went down or not. it did not. also checked the WAN IP Address (What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Internet Speed Test, IP Info, plus more). the Ip did not change. so what could be the problem? modem? splitter?

Next thing to try:
Run a continuous "ping www.yahoo.co.in" and see if there are any packet drops around the same time when you get disconnected from the chat rooms. Let us know the result of this test.

I would say Modem. I had the same problem just 5 days back & after a quick chat with the local tech in Airtel I decided to ask for a new modem. So no problems anymore. :cool2:

Hey! glad to know your connection issues resolved. I too called up the local tech and told them to replace the modem and splitter.

@EVERYONE, someone else also had the same disconnection problems in one the chats I visit, and he wrote to the administrator of that chat, I am pasting the reply of the admin, have no idea what the it means,

" This is caused by a disconnected session. Disconnects can be caused by any number of factors. This is typically related to a problem between your internet service provider, and the chat servers.

This sort of disconnection can be a problem with your internet access, in general. The chat maintains a persistent connection, which most things, such as webbrowsing, do not. Short 'hiccups' in service wouldn't necessarily affect webbrowsing, e-mail, and even some instant messengers, but it would be likely to impact the chat client. "

great that you have tested and found that DSL Link is not dropping. So there is no point of changing all the cables and wires. all are good enough.

Its more of a packet loss thats happening. Normally due to MTU this could happen for Yahoo Messenger and al. The yahoo messenger would get disconnected and connect back as its happening for various chat rooms.

With the model number of your modem I dont think there is an option to set mtu on the modem itself. You would need to change the same on your computer.

Again now to identify if there is a packet loss on the network or is it due to just mtu issue you can probably run a continuous ping.

on command prompt - run a continous ping to some site like google or so.

ping google.com -t

just check if there is a packet loss during the time when you loose the connection to MEssenger and chat rooms.

How to Optmize your MTU ?
https://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe

Download the tool from the above link. First set the MTU on your adapters to 1500.

Now try ping a wesbite with packet size of 1500-28

ie.
ping google.com -l 1478 -f

if you are getting a reply then the mtu is ok, else if its says packet needs to be fragmented then you need to reduce the value of 1478 to lower. Keep lowering in and find the optimum value. SO if you get a reply at 1460 and at 1461 it says packet needs to be fragmented then your MTU size should be 1460+28=1488 and this needs to be set for your adapters.

You can even find how to optimize the MTU if you search through in google.

But atleast now you can ask AIRTEL to stop working on cables and splitters. Its clearly nothing wrong with it. Even a modem change may resolve the issue. The reason the modem may not be auto negotiating the MTU.

Also do let me know if you are finding it confusing. I will explain you.
