TO hell with Airtel, dump it for Reliance wireline broadband or BSNL, or even MTNL. They dont have any FUPs even in 1mbps or 2mbps plans. I have decided to finally get rid of my everyday stress of having to deal with Airtel's ****ing Fair Usage Policy.

Update: I'm gonna give a disconnection request today. Got Fair Usage Policy'ed badly and even the nodal team has given up. They expect me to pay 1099 INR + taxes per month for 512 Kbps Unlimited. They're stubborn on this and I got call backs from 3 senior airtel executives saying I'll have to live with 512 Kbps. This is what I get after being a loyal airtel broadband customer for 2+ years.

**** airtel.

Reliance broadband, here I come. I'll opt for Reliance's 1Mbps-1099 tariff plan. Initially, I had decided to go for BSNL 3G but I trust Reliance more than BSNL. I'll not use any BSNL service ever even if it's offered to me for free. :|

Update: The so-called retention plan lasted only 4 days. I got 1 Mbps for the last 4 days and now it's again back to 512 Kbps day/night.

I really dunno what to say. I'm done with airtel. :)

Update: Yesterday, I finally disconnected my airtel broadband connection. :)

I'm gonna go for Reliance broadband but I need some reviews before I do that...

Haha....what a thread!! Really peoples have been suffering a lot with Airtel. Even the good old iChaitnya. Good for you dude, you finally decided to get over (atleast these guys tried to keep you for some more time which eventually turned up into fraud indeed)

After I filed for my cancellation, I got a call from their retention cell - it was hilarious. I turned the conversation in a way basically asking them - "How many cancellations are you getting because of Fair Usage Policy??" hahaha My intention was not to have talk myself into a better Fair Usage Policy policy but just to have fun... the guy on the other end acknowledged that their Fair Usage Policy is backfiring. I said I need a no-Fair Usage Policy plan, if you can get me that in writing then call me back and send me a letter and an email stating the same - otherwise take your modem away :) He said he will speak to his seniors and call me back

Good for you formfollowsfunction, you are pretty much happy with MTNL, well I dont have MTNL
here in chennai......But thank god I have been safe from Airtel for last two times when I applied for
new connection and stayed with Reliance - once wired and there after Wimax (while shifting location,
wired was not feasible and there was no feasibilty of Airtel)

Well earlier at home, I used 2 Mbps Night Unlimited plan... but ofc in my area I faced a hell lot of
disconnection problem because of wire getting cut every now and then (either of road construction,
sewage construction or theft - lawl those BSNL employee used to complaint "Reliance guys do it
intentionally to make BSNL customer to shift to Reliance, hmm maybe possibble!!). No doubt I being
heavy downloader, it was pretty painfull for me to stay in this plan ... specially to get up and start
download at night (yeah I know there are telnet script to do so... but guess what it never worked out
for me... as I have using Windows 7...whenafter I acame to know about this script!!)

Now, as I moved to Chennai..... for my job!! I made up my mind, I have to go for private connection.
So guess what even before moving there...I called Chennai`s local Airetle CC no. to enquire plan and
was pretty disappointed that they dont have any Non FUP PLan, still after getting my flat, I applied for Airtel.
But I was lucky even the thid small DB being there near my house....Airtel was unable to provide service as of some
Main DB getting chocked as of Road construction. hmmmh thnaks god I was saved!!

And then what I was searching for an alternative. Me personally have never heard of Reliance...but somehow
I saw an advertisement in my area of Reliance so I searched of it on net, the tarrif was impressive specially the
1 Mbps + NO FUP.... what else a heavy downloader needs :D. Then what I called up them, there was a lil feasibilty
issue, the maindistribution tower was a lil far, but the manager of that area promised they will surely be able to
make it feasible, and guess what within 1 week I was given the connection..... I used it for three months.
And was the most happiest guy...No FUP at all...an awesome connection I use to download and upload like crazy!!

When I shifted to the new area after my training got over, the wired line feasibilty was not there.
So, again thought and eventually applied for Airtel as of no other option, but some force stopped me again.

Airtel didnt have feasibilty, but before I came to know about the same.. someguy from Reliance called with
an alternative of Reliance Wimax. Now Wimax being pretty costly... I was lil apprehensive, but the other option
being BSNL.... and that too they dont have any impressive 1 Mbps UL plans. I decided to go for it, but this time
my 6 rommates deciede to use the same(earlier there we were having two different connection, now ofc we
had one connection but we bought a Nice Cisco router this time so that everyone can use it properlly, plus they
not being much of a downloader, I am in win win situtatiion).

The plan with Static IP, and wallah it has been awesome, no downtime at all!! I am simply loving it.
I download like crazy and upload like crazy...A nd guess what dont have be worried of any FUP......
My life is peacefull with the Reliance Non FUPed connection.

So all you guys who are already fed up, getting fed up or thinking to go for Airtrl.
My friend, dont go for thes fraud gays who have been going downhill since2-3 Years now.
I had have good experience with Reliance... maybe you may as well!!
Or with MTNL........ but yeah start avoiding these fuacktels/

Thats what I have to say after reading this thread!!
Thanks and Regards!!

My overall experience has been a bit flaky with the internet connection itself. When it runs, it runs great but my internet goes down every 2-6 hours. The interesting part is that the ADSL link still shows on at on the router but it won't connect to the internet. A router restart restores the internet immediately. I am working with their people to get this resolved, they are saying they will change the router and see. Apparently some other people are also facing the same issue both in Delhi and Mumbai, see this post: https://broadband.forum/mtnl-broadband/51979-mtnl-triband-frequent-disconnects-even/

I will keep you posted on the "switch" but overall I am happy and relieved that I don't have to deal with the Airtel bullshit anymore - that had turned into a nightmare!

My initial investigation reveals that the problem may very well be in my 4 year old WiFi router. I remember having to restart it from my Airtel time as well but the problem manifests differently on the MTNL modem and my Wifi router. I replaced my WiFi modem with another one I borrowed from a friend and so far, after 5 hours, there is no disconnection.

I hope I have nailed the issue - will update after running it for a few more days.

UPDATE: Yup, fixed. My WiFi router was the culprit. So let me restate - MTNL is running just fine for me :) and the switch was very smooth and rewarding. I had taken the MTNL Rs 999 plan for 1 Mbps, now that everything has settled down, I will be going for the 2 Mbps plan for Rs 1499!! Woohoo - pretty excited now as I would be paying only Rs 100 extra compared to my Airtel plan and would be enjoying double the speeds at 2 Mbps and no FUP!!

Well I am not all surprised with the comments here.Have been traumatised by airtel many many times.I duno why they do not hear to the consumer complaints. It's absolutely ridiculous

Woke up late, got a message that I have been FUPed. Checked the speed, its still 1 mbps.Strange are the ways of airtel, I have been told that my FUP limit is 50 GB then how come I can finish that in 9 days of billing cycle.Anyways, once am FUPed I will start to think of other options. Reliance (still not sure if its gud) seems to be the only option

I have been told that my FUP limit is 50 GB then how come I can finish that in 9 days of billing cycle.
My point is that u can download approx 77 GB in 9 days with 1 mbps speed

I know that, airtel has gone mad. I might have downloaded a max of 25 GB in this time.I got a mail and message that I have been FUPed but am still getting the old speeds of 1mbps

airtel has gone mad.

If they come back to normal i might return to it in another 6 months....right now i cant trust them....when i asked to disconnect my line in JAN an airtel executive requested me to stay for just 1 more month & everything would be fine...let's wait & watch
