Is is mandatory or optional for the ISPs to implement the fair usage policy?

why would TRAI do that!

as for current and potential users, the thing is simple. airtel has the right to change their plans for future potential customers. but for to do that to existing customers is something that is blasphemy :P

of course, the fair usage policy is a disgust that is being carried here from comcast and other ISPs in the US.

sify has been doing it for ages (150 megs a day!)...

things are terrible. :(

having restriction free broadband connectivity is a must...

linux has massive patches on a weekly basis.

microsoft have massive patches on a monthly basis.

mac os x too have decent sized patches randomly.

it would become a mess if i have to ration my system updates to stay in the limits no matter how generous they are.

Airtel has recommended the use of fair usage policy, Trai has not given any such orders(as far as i know) . Comcast was found doing it and was sued by some consumer rights commision (not sure about the name) and lost the case.. More over even if they degrade their services ... People will still be receiving speeds in MBPS unlike here...

comcast was tempering with p2p traffic of their customers. that was found to be illegal. comcast later on decided to counter the ruling by applying download limits. that has not been labeled illegal.

Same is the case here, there MB based plans started now, here its been going on ever since i remember. Moreover whats the point of paying extra for unlimited connection (slow speeds) when its gonna be capped and then service degraded????

well that is the whole point. you cannot charge a premium if you are going to cap the speeds after a particular data transfer. and increasing the prices while adding the limitation! that's WTF.

WTF! I just went and checked my Data Usage and there are some days where i have(allegedly) downloaded 5-6 GB in a day! I mean WTF! Let me calculate this:I have line speed of 384 KbpsSo every hour i can download appr. 150 MBEvery day that is 150*24 = 3600 MB(3.6 GB)So if my maximum download possible is 3.6 GB, how the heck can i download more than that! I am surely not getting double speeds, forget double i hardly get 90 percent of my line speed. CC and Nodal Officers, you are gonna get a earful from me....

I thought its the time for Broadband Revolution in INDIA , Sad to know its Broadband Recession....!!!!!!:@

the time of the broadband revolution in india has been claimed just like every year is called the year of the linux. :)

another thing. airtel should have the balls to come out with a tool that is easy to use and enables the user to monitor his usage at any given time. they should probably collaborate with brian (the creator of datafox) to make it :P

this is a sarcastic suggestion to airtel.

and that set a predendent.NOW most isps in USA are doing FAIr usage policy.

Its one thing that your cap is 250 gb or 150gb for 4\16 mb plans but in india to have 20gb limit is preposterous!.
