I don't think their is even 10% chances to rollback this policy.
& TRAI & DOT, i consider, both as impotent. so better look for alternate option & dump Airtel.
any petition, any email, no matter how hard we bang our head, nothing will work, as they are backed up by the capitalists & politicians,
the category of un-social animals, who aren't affected by the existence of internet at all. :@

:madness:
& i don't think even 10% of "airtel internet" subscriber has knowledge or access to this forum or interested in the petition. majority of them are not educated enough to understand these things Or Lazy, so even all airtel users in this forum unsubscribe their service, it wont affect airtel much in compare to the profit they are going to make by implying their FUP. :@

:madness:
better we switch to some other ISP & wait for some big player like Railwire or Sky (via Tata Sky) come into market.

:madness:

What has net neutrality got to do with FUP ?

Now they are stopping us from using it to its full potential.
Tomorrow, they might start restricting the sites that we may visit using their networks.
It is JUST the start of a huge mess and if we do not protest it now, we may never get another chance.

one of the internet infrastructure company actually raised the issue that companies like google should pay them money for having sites like youtube on the web.

they said that youtube is causing extreme load on the internet itself so google should pay them for the excessive usage. something like that at least.

that is what it is going to be all about.

freedom of expression on the net.

Google Public Policy Blog: Net neutrality and the benefits of caching

Broadband providers -- the on-ramps to the Internet -- should not be allowed to prioritize traffic based on the source, ownership or destination of the content.

Scott Cleland, president of Precursor LLC., a research firm bankrolled by telecom heavyweights like AT&T and Verizon Communications Inc., released a report on Thursday saying that Google uses 21 times more bandwidth than it pays for. The study (download PDF) estimates that Google accounted for 16.5% of all U.S. consumer Internet traffic this year; that number is predicted to jump to 25% in 2009 and 37% in 2010.

\"Internet connections could be more affordable for everyone, if Google paid its fair share of the Internet's cost,\" wrote Cleland in the report. \"It is ironic that Google, the largest user of Internet capacity pays the least relatively to fund the Internet's cost; it is even more ironic that the company poised to profit more than any other from more broadband deployment, expects the American taxpayer to pick up its skyrocketing bandwidth tab.\"

This has been my understanding of net neutrality as well. An attempt to transition to a 'pay-per-view' model depending on the site.

Yes, agreed, if you want more content then 'pay-per-view' a la speed on demand.

Even tho they only charge for the duration and not the amount of data pulled, the net result is the same.

Network neutrality is the principle that Internet users should be in control of what content they view and what applications they use on the Internet. The Internet has operated according to this neutrality principle since its earliest days... Fundamentally, net neutrality is about equal access to the Internet. In our view, the broadband carriers should not be permitted to use their market power to discriminate against competing applications or content. Just as telephone companies are not permitted to tell consumers who they can call or what they can say, broadband carriers should not be allowed to use their market power to control activity online.
—Guide to Net Neutrality for Google Users[3]

Without net neutrality, the Internet would start to look like cable TV. A handful of massive companies would control access and distribution of content, deciding what you get to see and how much it costs. Major industries such as health care, finance, retailing and gambling would face huge tariffs for fast, secure Internet use ... Most of the great innovators in the history of the Internet started out in their garages with great ideas and little capital. This is no accident. Network neutrality protections minimized control by the network owners, maximized competition and invited outsiders in to innovate. Net neutrality guaranteed a free and competitive market for Internet content.

can anybody clear that is that policy also affecting plan in madhya pradesh,i went to airtel tarrif site but there is no fup in mp circle.if they will apply here i will shift to bsnl again even bsnl sucks here

A simple definition of net-neutrality :Anything done by the internet service provider that amounts to any sort of restriction to ur accessing the net. Internet is a decentralized network which nobody has the right to control . You pay the ISP to connect to a decetralised network as it is, therefore ISP doesnt have any right to condition in any way ur access coz the ISP doesnt own it..ISP is not the internet its only the last leg in ur connectivity. This includes but is not restricted to following - Fair usage policy - restricting the quality of service by restricting the speed at which u connect once u have made a contract and are paying them to connect at that speed. All sorts of blocks - including blanket website block, Port blocking, selective application blocking. All sort of traffic shaping which has for its object anything other than stability of the network.
