This is the worst piece of news I have heard in quite a few years..........and is so freaking depressing.....Called teh cc here in Bangalore and they confirm this...details they say will be sent in the bill..they say its a government policy..not quite sure of that..anyways speeds will drop to half and the following are the limits on their various ´´unlimited´´ plans !! Broadband Recession ??256 - 10 GB384 - 15 GB512 - 25 GB1 Mbps - 150 GB

Its true (I joined this forum to confirm this message!). According to new guidelines of TRAI (as told by the Airtel customer care executive), this is called "Fair user download", so that they can regulate the bandwidth traffic. Its only implemented in metros. This doesn't apply only for Airtel, but also, for all ISP's. This is what he said.128 kbps = download limit 10 gb256 kbps = 15 gb384 kbps = 20 gb512 kbps = 25 gbAfter you reach the limit, your speed 'maybe' reduced to half (it has, for me). While the world enjoys broadband speed of 10mbps, we are still SUFFERING at this ridiculous speed. To make matter worse, these TRAI buggers are adding friggin regulations. Some answers to your questions:1. When did they roll out this new policy?Since Feb 72. Were the customers informed of this new policy? No. Some Airtel customer care executives didn't even know about this.3. How reliable is this "data collection" method which clocks 25GB at times?Ugh. Maybe we should start making a note of how much data we download. Pathetic.4. Why 25GB? Why not 10GB or 50GB?:wall:5. Is there anyway for me to bypass this policy?I don't think so. 6. Is this policy on a trial period right now? Are they ready to retract this policy if they face customer ire?I guess they might. I blasted Airtel Customer care executive for not intimating its customers about this new regulation. The only thing he could say was "I am extremely sorry sir!". I mean, wtf can he do anyway!7. What are we as consumers going to do about this considering they are not ready to budge from their stand?Hmm.. I don't know. What can we do ? In the end, all I can say is WTF ??? :@ :thumbsdown:Dang! I am damn slow.

so trai has jumped the bandwagon with them :hysterical:i hope this recession(cough soon to be depression) sinks these telecom companies cuz i know how bad it will get.poor former prez kalam envisaging india as a developed country by 2020.

TRAI SOBs ........... Just when u think ..they finally have 1 Mbps unlimited....they come up with this...."Fair user download" ???? how ridiculous is this ? So TRAI thinks we Indians are going bonkers with our downloading at 256 kbps ??

poor former prez kalam envisaging india as a developed country by 2020.

by 2020 we might have got rid of 128 kbps for sure....i think :S.......

I have also been reduced to 256KB/s from 384kb/s:madness::madness:.. but i have been told that the download limit 25Gb, each of them coming up with new limits and they told this applies to all providers not only airtel since it's from TRAI... guess we have suffer it .......:@:@

...and I was day-night dreaming of having 2mbps unlimited internet connection. (That will remain a dream)

i dont understad its a recommendation from TRAI so all isps did this?.WHy dont isps care for their customers?isps do have a option to do this isnt it?can any one post the trai article?

they are importing rules and regulations from abroad minus their speeds and download limits..Many ISP's in developed countries abroad do have this "fair usage" clause in their unltd. plan contracts..but they offer multi-megabit speeds and decent/reasonable download limits after which this policy kicks in and reduces the speed of unltd plans..why is TRAI implementing this on bullock cart speed plans is anybody's guess :mad:BTW isnt TRAI only a recommendatory body?? as i understand it..their recommendations go though the DoT route before reaching the Telcos and DoT has power to reject TRAI's recommendations

fair user download?!! new terms just keep coming. and these ISPs, regulations which benefit them, they are sharp to implement ASAP. Regulations which benefit customer they need time and try to delay as much as possible or go to court.i hope tomorrow MTNL doesnt come up with fair download for NU plans. and reduce 749NU speed from 2mbps to 256k beyond 10GB
