heh. how many ministers are aware of the power of the internets?

obama probably won because of his attempt to pursuade the online audience to vote.

here? advani is interested in spending crores on google adsense to advertise on sites like this forum...

but broadband is not really an issue here.

TRAI websites states:

Our Mission: The mission of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is to ensure that the interests of consumers are protected and at the same time to nurture conditions for growth of telecommunications, broadcasting and cable services in a manner and at a pace which will enable India to play a leading role in the emerging global information society.

TRAI defines broadband as 256kbps here in india.

so airtel can still probably sell packages as unlimited broadband as long as they are unlimited and are at least 256kbps.

^ Why not, they paid for the bandwidth and the premium for unlimited plans. They are entitled to use it. If Airtel did not have the bandwith then they should not have started these plans.

There is nothing wrong with the plans offered by Airtel..... but Airtel should have never called it unlimited plans.

Simple understanding of the technology should make you realize as long as there is a limit or cap on the speed then the rate of transfer of data and the volume of data tranfer is also limited. Unless ofcourse the speed is significantly very higher than the user can consume. To provide such speeds they need far more sophisticated & expensive technology.

You havent answered my question. Instead you ask me to explain Airtel's stupid decision which infact was the point of discussion! You seem to confuse the words Unlimited with Free. The customer pays extra compared to a regular user for the 'Unlimited' privilege.Have you ever been to a buffet? By your logic, people with a larger appetite should be banned from them.

Suppose there are 10 big eaters on one side of a buffet table (lets call them Torrent boys) and there are 10 normal eaters on the other side...who do you think gets more food in a given specific span of time ?

even sify has proposed the Fair Use Policy

d. Fair Use Policy: Another area which the Regulator would need to work is in
the Fair Usage Policy. Our internal study indicates that the Top 20% of the
users consume 80% of the bandwidth (OFCOM indicates top 10% of the
customers consume more than twice the bandwidth consumed by the rest 90%
of the customers). It would be prudent for the service providers to have a fair
use policy, especially in the unlimited category where the customer can be
restricted on the download speed once a threshold is reached. This will enable
all the Broadband Users to have an equitable access to the broadband capacity
and improve quality of experience in general to all the users.

Fair Use Policies followed by some of the leading ISPs in the world in
association with their respective regulatory authorities are mentioned below:
i. Orange, UK

ii. AOL, UK

iii. AT&T, USA

WTF! You want to give everyone equal access, let there be just ONE plan! That's what's equal. Im f***ing paying more money than the other guy NOT to get equal access! What a load of crap! Its just a poor excuse these lamers have for not having the proper infrasctucture in place to support their userbase. Imagine if tomorrow gmail says "you've received more than 100 mails in this month, so we're gonna have to make you wait 30 mins each time you wanna access any of your mail obviously, to give a "fair" chance to other users. Utter bull crap.

Its a lame excuse.. a real lame excuse to implement caps..and that too such low caps..atleast 500gb a month should be the caps IF only they provide us with decent highspeed (16mbps d/l and 5mbps u/l) speeds.

lmao....post of the day

Fair Use Policy should be on both sides,ok airtel needs to save bandwidth,so they put cap on unlimted plans, then consumer should also have privilege of -Fair Use Policy[after all consumers also arrange money to pay phone bills, they don't have unlimted money, they also have right to save money, why they keep paying airtel montly amount+tax+vat]so why not after airtel have capped the bandwidth, consumers cap the amount they pay -like only pay half the amount of phone bill, like 10 days[full bandwidth ,full amount]then half bandwidth ,so half amounttrai should apply that alsothen it is =FAIR use policy,

Why are they putting caps on the plans i don't get it, its not like we (indian consumers) are getting good speed. Already our ISP's have got shitty speeds and on top of it they want to cap the download limit. waa bhai waaa!! People are right.. "is desh ka kuch nahi ho sakta", so fckin true!!:madness:

i think its only for Andhra Pradesh,Karnataka,Kerala circles ..Airtel Fair usage plans means that UL plans cease to exist now in these circles.May be they will launch real UL plans later:DThere is one thing that can be done ..people from these circles can form groups and then scan ips from these states get phone nos...call people and tell them to call Helpline and get the bb disconnected by the end of the month if the airtell fair usage policy (another 1st from airtel)isnt removed ..a 5K disconnection request a city would force them to rethink or get local distribute pamphlets in every house with a distribution point box.:S:D
