Suppose there are 10 big eaters on one side of a buffet table (lets call them Torrent boys) and there are 10 normal eaters on the other side...who do you think gets more food in a given specific span of time ?

Again, whats your point? So let the big eaters eat, by your logic Hotels should have a Body Mass Index test before they can enter a buffet.

By your babudom logic, people should get broadband to check email and post matrimonial columns.

It was never unlimited to begin with

If an ISP says Unlimited plan with 256 kbps then it is not unlimited. It is like a water supply company stating they will provide unlimited supply on a 10 mm dia pipe. The limiting factor is the rate at which it can be delivered on that size pipe.

So how are other countries able to deliver more 'water' at faster rates and manage to keep growing the 'supply' rates exponentially? Dude, do some research before spouting your mouth off.

haha. they cant even supply a desktop tool to show the usage :D
Isn't it more dangerous? You will exceed your limit even if the comp is not switched on!!!

^ It will look pretty odd when we keep checking our usage for so called unlimited plan..I would have dumped Airtel and migrated to BSNL's Home UL 1350 plan but cause of doubt that BSNL might follow Airtel's path in a month or two I have to stick with Airtel as of now

But if a lot of Airtel users start switching to BSNL just for their UL plans, it could lead Airtel to take notice and provide BSNL enough incentive to keep the UL plans. :cool2:

We can hope that BSNL in its sarkari action will take time for implementing fair use policy if at all it does implement it.I for one am happy for retaining my BSNL 256 UL. 6 Gb done so far on Airtel Unlimited 128. Let's see if they cap me when I finish downloading 10gb on torrents. Then it's bye-bye to the backup Airtel 128.It's best to hit Airtel where it hurts the most. Surrender the lines. Lost revenue will show up on the balance sheet. The stock market's will do the rest.

Ok so I just got an email from Airtel, so it is confirmed as the official word:

We thank you for being a valuable member of the Airtel family.

As a constant endeavor to offer you a great Broadband experience, we at Airtel are continuously upgrading our network to deliver you a world class service and experience.

We have observed that a very small number of customers on the Home 999 Plus plan, which is the plan that you have subscribed to, use an excessive amount of bandwidth at times, to the extent that it can impair the browsing experience of others. An extremely high usage suggests either an abuse of the connection by others or usage of service/downloads which cannot be supported by this current plan.

We recommend the following precautions immediately for you so as to prevent any abuse:

[*]
[*]Please switch off your modem/router after use.
[*]Please ensure that your PC has an updated anti-virus protection suite and is not infected from viruses and other malware.
[*]If you are using a Wi-Fi network please ensure that it is protected by an encryption key to prevent unauthorized access and misuse.
[/list]
We are also making a minor change in the Home 999 Plus plan to ensure that we continue to provide the best of broadband experience to all customers. To enhance your broadband experience, we have added an extra benefit in the plan which entitles you to Rs.25 worth of Speed on Demand per month, a service which allows you to browse at higher speeds.
Details
Modified Structure
Plan Rental Rs.999
Free Data Transfer Unlimited
Download speed till 25 GB 384 kbps
Download speed after 25 GB256 kbps
Additional Data Usage Charges Nil
Free Speed on Demand per monthRs.25

All other charges and rates in the plan remain unchanged. Kindly note, the speed rationalization on crossing the download threshold would be for the remainder of that bill cycle only. The speed would be automatically restored to the original level at the start of next bill cycle.

The modified plan would be effective from 7th February 2009. For further information, you may please write to us at [email protected] or call at 121 (toll-free) from your Airtel Landline.

Warm regards,

Sharan Shetty

How can anyone using 384kbps or even 1mbps be degrading the service for others ? What kind of capacity do these guys have ? The ISPs doing it in foreign have connections like 16/2 and not 384kbps. This is just a dumb ploy by Airtel who is obviously too busy sponsoring events and spending on marketing but they hardly care about upgrading their network. In Mumbai their cell phone reception is horrible..even on main roads their network goes..Airtel is more like FAILtel..Horrible company and I will get rid of my Airtel prepaid mobile..not supporting a horrible comapny like this in any way.LOL me using 384kbps of speed would impact browsing of others..lol.:rofl:This is like FailTel saying I'll let you use my 100cc motorcycle which you pay through the nose for..but you can only travel 25kms.Really hope other ISPs don't follow suit.Wasn't CricketNirvana broadcasting the India-Sri Lanka series on the net ? Is Airtel afraid people would drop their IPTV package and just get all of their content online ?

What do they mean by "Free speed on demand", they will give extra speed? For how many hrs/days?

What do they mean by "Free speed on demand", they will give extra speed? For how many hrs/days?

As far as i know, the measly 25 bucks they provide free of cost will give you an hour of 256 kbps or about half hour of 512 kbps or 20 minutes of 1 mbps or 10 mins of 2 mbps. I quote this information from the airtel website, after i login to their Speed On Demand section, which are as follows:
BoD@256 (Rs 25 /Hr)
BoD@512 (Rs 40 /Hr)
BoD@1Mbps (Rs 75 /Hr)
BoD@2Mbps (Rs 120 /Hr)

WOWEEEEEE Airtel is giving me 10 minutes of 'FREE' 2 Mbps broadband and will probably downgrade me to 64 kbps for the rest of my life because i downloaded more than 10 mb with it!
