trai has practically done nothing in years.

the only thing they did was the declare that 256kbps connections can be called broadband.

other than that nothing.

they did not state any QoS requirements. they just do not care about the state of broadband in the country.

broadband is to be treated on the same levels as telephony. trai does so much to make sure telecom companies do not overcharge for their services, they need to do something to make sure broadband prospers in india.

US is trailing european and south eastern nations when it comes to broadband. india has to follow their peers in these nations. rather than copy the stupidity of american ISPs.

from what i see, if i pay 700 bucks more a month to get double the speed, i can claim my fair share of bandwidth from them using a 1mbps pack than 2 people can do both on 512kbps plans.

frankly speaking, they cannot be forced to change their plans by law or trai. the only logical option i see is to do my part in getting around their policies and having my piece of cake.

this connection is already shared between...

a Dell
a macbook
an ipod touch
an ibm thinkpad
and a desktop

:P

sometimes a friend drop by and uses his laptop and a smartphone on the same network.

so well, its used pretty fairly.

now, i want to know what airtel means by their policy of a single computer.

are they banning the use of Wi-Fi networks at home as well!

now i am in ubuntu. fonts are weird. installing msttcorefonts. let's see if that fixes the problem.

I was about to signup for a Airtel Broadband Unlimited 256kbps and these morons have introduced this unfair "Airtel Fair Usage Policy". :wall: Earlier I had enquired about it and today I got a call from Airtel rep. He told me that for a 256kbps 15GB is limit and after that speeds is cut to half that is 128kbps. :cry:Earlier Airtel marketed these unlimited plan for heavy downloaders. Now after garnering enough users Airtel wants to loot them. The very need to take an unlimited plan is for heavy downloads. If Airtel cant let it then they should not have unlimited plans in the first place.data caps != UnlimitedCalling a plan with datacaps as Unlimited is cheating. A clear case for Airtel consumers to put a case in the consumer court.

let them ban wi-fi or routers or whatever. ill put a linux box as router and use NAT. f*ck it, ill donate my bandwidth to the home-office next door for day times when m not at home. will ensure the connection is used every single second of the month. coz that' what i am paying for.

and u r the only user using all 5 things?
laptop and desktop is mine.

macbook and touch is wife's

ibm is brother's

of course, i am the sole user most of the time as they go to office and only use the net when they are at home.

it would be pretty impossible for them to ban wifi routers.

they cannot do that at least for residential customers.

funny thing is that an airtel dude himself told me that it is pretty common for companies to take multiple airtel broadband connections in an individual's name and use it in an office for commercial purposes.

Yeah this is the irony of Indian corporates. Fukcing hypocrytes *talk* of "Corporate Governance" & "Corporate Social Responsibility" and *do* things like Satyam & Airtel. Its like our country listing right to religion as a fundamental right and then putting a * and writing in size 8 font in the bottom:
Fair use of religion policy:
Following any other religion than Atheism will get you killed.:frown:

heh. here in india being an SC/ST could be a bad thing but if you are looking for a government job, that is the best known qualification to mankind. we are living in funny times.

what are the guys at airtel thinking? don't they realise that the 'bandwidth huggers' willl move to other isps if they have to?
