Let's wait for some more time before we sound the victory bugle. Hearing what cln.1947 just said, I feel like running home from work and checking out if I have been restored to 384 kbps, last I check (this morning), I was still pinned down at 256 kbps.

Airtel also said that your speeds will be reset to original speed-plan speeds at the start of your billing period and the countdown would start again. @cln.1947, you might want to check that.

Can anyone else confirm if they are seeing restoration of plan-level speeds?

I have my original 384 kbps speeds back!! And it's not even the start of a billing cycle!!

I have no idea what Airtel is upto. After cln.1947 I am the second user reporting (live from Bangalore) about restoration of speeds.

Anyways, my downloads live to see another day. Will keep reporting as things progress.

@alikheri, this is what happened with Karnataka when they changed their plans. At first there were 7 plans, which went up to 10 plans over a day. So wait it out while they update their website, I don't think 4 plans are enough for Maha & Goa.

In the middle of all this, we forgot to start a new thread - Airtel increasing rates of it's unlimited plans by 15-20% by bundling calls which cost almost nothing to them coz the free calls are from Airtel LL to Airtel LL.

Well well, here's my story. I was minding my own business and surfing as usual in the morning. Suddenly my internet stops working. I give it 5 mins and check again, its still down. So i go check the landline phone whether there's a dial tone, there was. So i waited for another 30 mins and still no internet. I gave up and decided to vent my dissatisfaction on an Airtel CSR, so gave them a call. This person was very helpful and after the million questions about my ip, dns and what not he tells me to go to my modem router page and asks me some details about that. I give him all that he asks for. Then he goes ahead and tells me to double check my WAN settings including the username and password, which i do. He then asks me for my username, which i dont provide arguing that he should have it on his computer, since i have already given him my phone number, and all my details will be on his screen. He then asks nicely again and again so i give it, but refuse to give my password. He says he doesnt need it and asks me permission to 'reset my password'. I argue with him again, asking why he has to do that. He says he wants to make sure i have the right password, so i tell him to go ahead with it. After a minute he says my password is reset and gives me the new password and tells me to put that in the modem router page. I do and WALLA my internet is working.
So after that i normally surfed, and a few mins back i download a software off a HTTP server and WALLA 384 kbps baby!!

I repeat! I am back to my original line speed of 384 kbps!

So my theory is that my line speed was reset and that somehow messed my internet. A password reset set it right, and now i am back to my original speed. Another theory i have is that the old users are given back their speeds and only new users and new plans will have the FUP. I have all my fingers crossed in all ways possible hoping this is the downfall of the 'Airtel Fair Usage' policy. :cool2:

Can anyone else from down south confirm this? Especially from Karnataka.

is this speed limiting recursive? say like if i have 512kb and i download 25GB and they reduce speed to 256k. so now if i dowload further 10GB, wud they reduce speed further to 128k?

Wow that would be the nail on our coffins. And stop giving these ideas to Airtel, they have spies you know :o

sify sucks. 150MB a day is a joke.

Yeah it certainly is, and 150mb per hour might be what ppl abroad get :ashamed:

At last, the barrage of attacks from so many affected customers seem to have instilled some sense into the AIRTEL management. They have now relented and I find that I am getting back my original speed of 256 kbps (or nearabout) for the past two hours or so. But no one from AIRTEL has called me to inform me about this yet.

Victory at last?

Yeah dude, i think so too. Viva la revolution! :cool2:

but we can not stop the pressure unless they remove it from their website and stop talking $hit. we just cant afford to do that.

i called up CC and asked to speak to a Senior officer, some Mr.Venkat came on line and i told him either charge me for 128 k or give back my 256 speed. he said sorry we will nto be able to do it. I have registred a complaint and i am taking them to consumer court.Any one from coimbatore i request you all to put up a joint effort so we can get our rights back.

Great to see some of you get your speeds back. I hope the rest of you get yours back, as well.

In my hurry to report that my original speed is back, I forgot to mention that this is exactly what happened to me. When I got home my internet was not working, the cc guy made me do some changes in the router configuration including username and password. The funny thing is that when I asked why does this happen, he said that this is because of "congestion between your modem and PC" :rofl:and I was like "dude, I'm connected to my modem with a lan cable, do you think there are ants in there causing congestion?"" Anyways, I let it pass since my internet was back up with the original speed.

Compare this with the Facebook user policy fiasco reported on Slashdot today... they reverted their decision after user outrage... I wonder if Airtel will bother listening to their paying customers...
