indeed we should all chill but as i have said it before online petitions dont do squat. It is not even legally binding to the parties.ITs just a form of protest. You need to take the legal route ie court but we all have to wait for the speed reduction.
You are going to grow up to be a wonderful cynic :P

I would say online petitions can sometimes do more than what an ordinary court case can do. They already have lawyers on retainers to fight their cases, and don't really give a damn if they have to pay Rs. 5,000 as compensation a year later. But if they get bad publicity now that hits them harder. As they say, "pait pe laat padna." And an online petition doesn't have to be an alternative to legal action. It can just be a precursor that hopefully gets them to take action without needing to engage in lengthy and costly litigation.

if media is not taking action, we could go ahead and post a half page advert in a national daily giving out details and analysis of airtel FUP in consumer interest. they can't gag that.

^^ Im in for the ad!

I think posting an add like "issued in public interest/public awareness" in a national daily would a great step and cause a huge embarassment to Airtel. Need someone here who would be willing to walk that extra mile. Such an add would need to present informaiton based solely on facts and not on our enraged emotions, otherwise no newspaper would accept it.
I am not sure, but I think a half page ad would cost a few lakhs. Unless we start charging a Rs. 10,000 membership fee to this forum, I am afraid that would be out of our reach!! (But what an idea, sirji - would be good fun!) :P

Some of the people are not able to find some of the plans. Some plans have been moved to the tab "Internet Plans" from the tab "Broadband plans". Because Airtel knows that after reducing the speeds on 256kb UL plans it wont be able to call it broadband as per TRAI regulations. Hence some plans moved to the tab "Internet Plans". I dont know if same is the case in all the cities. But in Karnataka this is the case. :P

Omg! I think you're right. Same for MH Circle. :O

Forget broadband. Welcome 'Internet'. Let's go back to stone age where they lit a fire by rubbing two stones.

Anyway, Is there anyone on this forum who is a lawyer or who knows exactly how we (as subscribers) need to deal with this? I'm serious.

^ We are trying to organize an internet petition. In fact I have spent the better part of today, (my only day off in the week - I don't even get tomorrow off :( )drafting the petition.A lot of it is there, but I need some examples of what are the legitimate uses of the internet that are bandwidth heavy. (stuff like downloading linux distros, VOIP, Video conferencing etc.)

Add education to your list. I have been using videos from the IIT and IIM websites for subject matters. They are definitely a very legitimate use that requires HIGH SPEED internet access

airtel's gift its customers: fair usage policy... shortened it reads: "F.U." policy! get it?! :D

include youtube. it' legal as all content that is reported for copyright violation is taken off quick. google earth, some of the education and broadcast endeavours by our own govt too. e-commerce, e-banking are also very important applications on the internet ( they may not be band heavy tho). internet radio is also legal. and lets not forget that all those flash based websites are also heavy.

TED Talks, audio and video podcasts, household with 2-4 users, MIRO player with educational content - all of this can suck the downloads in a matter of few days to your caps.

^ You'll have to elaborate... I don't know what TED and MIRO are...But anyway, guys, I don't need specific examples as much as I need general applications, such as video conferencing for job interviews, streaming video for online education etc.

Mention in BOLD WORDS that Airtel is against education. It is not allowing its users to use the internet to full advantage.Education is a big buzz word and maybe the mainstream media can pick up on it because of this single word.
