Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to bring to your attention the malpractice being commited by several Internet Service Providers (ISP). Airtel, alongwith with others, has introduced an anti-consumer Fair Usage policy which they have not even posted on their website. I had to search for the Fair Usage Policy on
Google. They have imposed limits on \"unlimited\" plans, exceeding which the speed is then reduced by 50%. They have failed to inform existing customers of these limits. Even now the Airtel website has not published the limits imposed on the \"unlimited\" plans. I would like to bring to your attention a paragraph from Airtel's Fair Usage Policy.
Why a Fair Usage Policy?
A very small number of customers use an excessive amount of the network bandwidth, to the extent that it can impair the experience of others. The intent of Airtel's Fair Usage Policy is to provide the optimum internet experience to all customers.
---------------------------
The purpose of an \"unlimited\" plan is to be able to use it as much as a person wants without having to worry about limits of any kind be they monetary, data usage or bandwith. The 'very small number of customers' mentioned above bought the \"unlimited\" plan to use it \"excessively\". Though, the term 'excessive' can not and should not be associated with an \"unlimited\" plan. The consumer has a right to use his/her internet connection as he/she pleases without the ISP determining how unlimited is \"unlimited\".
The ISP have formed an oligopoly and many of them have introduced this Fair Usage Policy to the detriment of consumers.
I hope the TRAI will take action against all ISP's that have introduced such anti-consumer measures. If ISPs cannot handle providing unlimited plans at such low speeds then they should reconsider their operations in this sector.
I would request you to visit

Thank you.
