ahem. i know about the policy itself. nowhere it is mentioned that TRAI has instructed them to implement it on their users.

now a days 256kbps is not enough to surf the net so everyone need to opt for 1mbps plan

i would say 512kbps is minimum BB speed (can watch live streaming of youtube without waiting)

but real BB speed is 1Mbps and above!!!

its just my guess now its clear that FUP has been implemented by ISP only and not TRAI:mad:

why would TRAI impose Fair usage policy to IsP's. If they had then MTNL would have implemeted it by now.

dont ever consider TRAI as an department they are useless like cage birds :wall:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to bring to your attention the malpractice being commited by several Internet Service Providers (ISP). Airtel, alongwith with others, has introduced an anti-consumer Fair Usage policy which they have not even posted on their website. I had to search for the Fair Usage Policy on Google. They have imposed limits on \"unlimited\" plans, exceeding which the speed is then reduced by 50%. They have failed to inform existing customers of these limits. Even now the Airtel website has not published the limits imposed on the \"unlimited\" plans. I would like to bring to your attention a paragraph from Airtel's Fair Usage Policy.

Why a Fair Usage Policy?

A very small number of customers use an excessive amount of the network bandwidth, to the extent that it can impair the experience of others. The intent of Airtel's Fair Usage Policy is to provide the optimum internet experience to all customers.

---------------------------

The purpose of an \"unlimited\" plan is to be able to use it as much as a person wants without having to worry about limits of any kind be they monetary, data usage or bandwith. The 'very small number of customers' mentioned above bought the \"unlimited\" plan to use it \"excessively\". Though, the term 'excessive' can not and should not be associated with an \"unlimited\" plan. The consumer has a right to use his/her internet connection as he/she pleases without the ISP determining how unlimited is \"unlimited\".

The ISP have formed an oligopoly and many of them have introduced this Fair Usage Policy to the detriment of consumers.

I hope the TRAI will take action against all ISP's that have introduced such anti-consumer measures. If ISPs cannot handle providing unlimited plans at such low speeds then they should reconsider their operations in this sector.

I would request you to visit http://afup.broadbandforum.co/. You can see that I am not the only person who finds this Fair Usage Policy unacceptable.

Thank you.

Regards,

Varun Sadh

If the TRAI implemented that thing every ISP would have implemented that thing ...... BSNL would be he first in that top of that line of implementing that kind of things

TRAI is a toothless agency. TRAI does not have any authority to take action and can merely suggest. It is for the govt to decide and with Raja at the helm of Telecommunication department, u can expect worse things to happen. :(

Neither does anybody in TRAI respond to these letters or take any action. I have sent many a letters to most of the people in TRAI, but no vain.

Audited Report - ( TRAI ::::::: )Even in the privately audited report of various aspects of Telcom companies like Airtel, Vodaphone and BSNL, in the report BSNL's customer support is reported as "Satisfactory". Anybody in his right mind would report BSNL's customer support as pathetic and shameful. :(

With continuance of Raja at the helm of telecom in India, it just shows the pathetic indifference the Govt of India has towards the telecom sector and the consumer. Even the Govt of India has no choice as the central govt cannot survive without the support of DMK. very sad state of affairs. :(
