Questions :: What is Portforwarding ?
Does it increase speed of downloads?
Unable to access modem to do above.
Summary:
Answers: 1.Your speed 28-33Kbps is pretty low.
If you mean 22KB/sec to 33KB sec it is Very good for 256 Kbps speed
( which I have airtel ). This means you can down load
a 1 MB program/file/picture/video/audio
in 50 seconds. to 30 seconds. approx.
2. Port forwarding: No improvement in speed expected.
usually done to access special programs like games etc.
3. If you are on (bridgemode) dialup mode PF Not needed.
4. If your Internet connection is ALWAYS ON ( PPPoE) PF may be needed
5. Accessing the modem. ( Airtel gives it preprogrammed for
always on with your UserID and password. )
Whether you have an internet connection or not modem/routers can be accessed.
For this the Default address is always 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
or 192.168.2.1 ( varies). Id password changes.
6. Please read other similar threads to get more info google search etc

dont take the trouble of port forwarding if u dont know how to do it and also there doesnt seem to be any need for doing it in ur case..u are already getting the max speed (if ur 22-32 kbps means KBps) that ur line supports..port forwarding will not increase this speed..why do ya wanna mess with the settings?

there wont be much gain in download speed but ur upload speed will suffer as a result of ports not being forwarded properly.

@anu @ cyberwiz brief and to the point. I am still trying to enable him to access the modem. all mixed up IP's.
will wait for feedback from rushab143.
@rushab143

Beetel always on 192.168.1.1
SMC Wireless router always on 192.168.2.1
see my (dynamic IP) shown on bottom right corner 122.164.63.95. (airtel)
May change tomorrow.

Thanks a ton for the replies.Ok, facts are laid down straight now. Port Forwarding does not Increase Speeds. And for sure by Port Forwarding I do not want to decrease my upload speeds.Thats it, "port forwarding" not on my mind now.It was great to be a part of this post and was even more delighted to see people being so helpful. Thanks once again.

^^ @ essbee ..no offence meant..

Where is it ? It was a compliment to you and Anu. My latest posting is to draw attention to the bridgemode/always on problem. I value everybody's comments, and learn from them. and I am glad very senior contributers , also joined this thread. No problem.

Para two : And even if the problem is not solved, I try to give some link/s, related/unrelated , which I come across, &hope will be useful to others !!!!
