Hey guys I'm planning to surrender my Airtel connection since they changed my FUP to 100 GB 512 kb day and 1 mbps in night to 30 GB till 1 mbps and 512 kbps all time. I said me to revert to my old plan but they said they can't do that so I am going to terminate. Anyways, when I took the connection I paid Rs. 1500, as activation and wifi charges. Now they are saying that if I surrender the connection, I'll have to give the router back? WTF! They are saying Rs.1500 was rent? Man you get a new router for Rs. 1200 and Rs. 1500 rent?Is this true guys?

if you paid 1500 bucks for the router, you purchased it. if you paid 1500 for connection, then router was being provided on rental basis probably. the company sells the router for 1500 bucks. it is probably rented for a nominal fee.

I paid Rs.1500 in total at the beginning for router connection everything. When I saw my first bill it was like Rs. 500 Activation charges, and Rs. 1000 WiFi Router charges. and Rs.1500 was waived off from the bill since I already paid that when I took the connection. I am not sure the charges are for rent, but Rs. 1000 as rent for modem sounds really really absurd.

well i am not defending airtel here. but on rental devices, the device becomes the headache of the company. they replace it for free with a new unit if it goes bad.

yeah i remember they replaced the adaptor once for free....maybe it is on rent, but after I surrender my connection, maybe I won't give them the modem LOL! as I have no security deposit, what can they do? :P

well the problem is that you cannot surrender your connection until... you return all the equipments. and pay all the pending dues. and if you do not surrender the connection, the bill would continue to pile up and one day they would forward your case to some collection agency.

oh I see! lol. Well, okay then seems I got fooled enough to pay Rs. 1000 as rent..... Well, let them take it away. I'll get a Linksys or something. BTW, do you suppose to have any info about Reliance Broadband? I am very much interested in it, but I am anxious that it won't work with multiple pc's at the same time. If it doesn't work, I'll have no other option than to go for BSNL.

well my brother has a reliance connection. they have a regular wifi router modem. it can be used on multiple connections over wifi. his connection requires to login through the reliance website. not sure if reliance allows for automatic login through the router itself.

wifi router modem? I heard that reliance gives Lan cable instead of telephone line, so He must get a wifi router, the adsl router given by bsnl/ airtel won't probably work with it, but he can use it in multiple pc's is a relief....

reliance provide broadband services just like airtel through landline connections.
