if you are getting a boosted speed.. DO NOT RESTART THE MODEMIf you have a specific reason behind the claim then pls explain the LOGIC.. The reason why I say DO NOT RESTART the modem is.. When you are getting a boosted speed its just because some wrong speed got capped for your account at the point when PPP was authenticating and establishing.. If you restart the modem it will do the handshake again and its not necessary that the mistake will happen again..

Hmmm...Nice logics...But nevermind..!! Am on MTNL...no speed boost or nothing, always 1.8Mbps, waiting for them to upgrade to 8mbps

but any network tech can tell u that there is no logic in what u just posted. DSL doesn't cap wrong speeds.
Logic follows a rule of networking, and what your just wrote is not in the rule book. Things don't work this way. Read more about speed bursts in this forum and you'll see how many guys actually get boosts after rebooting.

@ajayu got the speed boosts maybe because of some server upgrade in your area but in delhi people get it whenever they restart their modems.So its something different happening there in delhi.:thumbsup:

rebooting a modem doesn't give you speedboost from 256kbps to 2mbps.. You need to first understand how DSL and a DSL Modem works.. if you say you are a network tech.. pls refer that , you would understand how speed can increase.. what changes could lead to a speed increase..
SIMPLE.. HOW DOES A MODEM know the DOWNLOAD STREAM SPEED and UPLOAD STREAM..
something wrong is being sent to modem from DSLAM end and that causes modem to understand the upload and download stream as 2mbps. The reason why this is coming could be a server upgrade or something at the other end.
SO rebooting a modem might cause DSLAM to sent a different data .. so if you are already getting a boosted data .. then its better not to reboot it at that time.. bcos you cannot be sure if its back.. But if you are experiencing a normal speed there is no harm in rebooting frequently trying luck..
Secondly it was not an area wise problem.. my friend in the next apartment in the same building was experiencing the same old speed while i was enjoying 2mbps... he too tried rebooting the modem ..but no use.. so your claim of area wise server upgrade doesnt stand..
