Airtel Broadband speed boost

@chillpilgrim
know one thing tat u have got an speed boost:yahoo: and u havent undergone any methods or techniques so if u have lost the SPEED BOOST then try RESTARTING UR MODEM it would benefit u sometimes
SO ENJOY EVERY MOMENT WITH AIRTEL:thumbsup:

Srini, R u still gettin the speedboosts?

There is three-fold logic behind this speed boosts :1. There is lot of surplus bandwidth that is unutilized as each ISP rents a full capacity undersea cable and continues to increase the capacity for growth in customers and revenue. Just like how many 256 kbps-hours do u use - typically 20%, so airtel makes five times more money from the same capacity or has 80% capacity unutilized. So it decides to share that with you on a random basis.2. But not without any marketing advantages. It gives airtel many "happy" customers as seen here. But it is not doing any favor or charity to you.3. It also gives them an opportunity to test its infrastructure for future scenario like iptv etc. Also, it collects the data about what a customer typically uses the relatively large bandwidths for. An upward speed bump is equally a violation of service agreement as is the downward speed limitations. For a smooth rider it could be disturbing. It is quite tempting to make use of this sudden boost and if your hard disc crashes due to over-activity, airtel can be made responsible :P

instead of giving it as surprise wy dont tey jus giv it for testing atleast 1 hr a day so tat tey can get feedback from us which will be usefull for tem to upgrade:whistle:

The trouble with speedboosts are that you need to be lucky enough to discover them during the window of opportunity that they exist.

I had a speedboost for nearly 10 days once...best 10 days of my Internet life.

I am getting about 2100 Kbps download speed and about 310 Kbps upload speed on my 256 Kbps Rs 999 unlimited connection at my home since last Saturday (23-Feb). Last time I checked on speedtest.net before leaving home this morning, the download speed was still over 2100 Kbps from servers in New York and LA.I phoned airtel support on Sunday morning and asked if this is a permanent boost but the support guy was not aware of anything like temporary or permanent boost. So, I took full benefit of the situation and downloaded about 14GB during the weekend. :)This speed boost may go away in a day or two but I must admit I have now started dreaming about the day when 2 Mbps unlimited connections will be available for under Rs. 1K/month (land line tariff, service tax and modem rental included).

Rs. 999 256 Kbps unlimited during the day and 2 Mbps during nights and weekends will be a big deal for many home users, for now.

tats a wonderful plan lets hope airtel brings these plans even if it is 128kbps its ok:P

hmm....I gues Airtel has quite a few surprises for u guys....there might be more to come.

128kbps day/1mbps night and 256/2mbps sounds a reasonable first step to take towards a full 2mbps plan. However, judging by the slow rate of progress, I would not get my hopes up about this happening any time soon
