Airtel Broadband: Static IP with Airtel

true...it's really annoying when u're running ur server and u have to do lots of setting changes once u restart the modem...

hii could not find out if airtel provides static ip.i go on private trackers and would like a static ip.please helpalso what are the torrent speeds in south delhibith download and upload...can i request for a specific modemthanks

Why would you need a static ip for private trackers? If anything it'll be less secure since ur ip is there for anyone in the swarm to see and it will be easier for sites to ban your ip if they wish to (besides other obvious drawbacks of having a static ip). The only plus point is that it's easier to set up a web-server. But then how many ppl require that and if am not mistaken, ppl here have done it even with dynamic ip's.If you're worried you won't be 'connectable' on private trackers and that you require a static ip to forward ports; then you're mistaken coz it's possible even with dynamic ip's and fairly simple at that. Been using private trackers with a dynamic ip setup for a while without any snags.

Just call 121 from your landline to have static ip address they are definately provide this service.

[thanks a lotfor the informationany users from south delhi who can comment on speedalso static ip helps ensure lesser waiting times on link-removed i know someone with dynamic ip who has problems unless using a proxy..i do not have a airtel yet and planning to move to itso these questions.

also static ip helps ensure lesser waiting times on link-removed [/b]
It's quite the opposite actually. Rapishare (free downloads) places restrictions on usage by detecting the users ip and enforcing wait times between downloads and disallowing concurrent downloads from the same ip. So if u have a static ip, you'll be forced to wait an hour or so between downloads whereas with a dynamic ip you can simply power cycle the modem to get a new ip and continue downloading.

As regards speeds in South Delhi, well it depends on what plan you opt for:

Home 699 (upto 128kbps) - 12-14kBps (Day) / 23-26kBps (Night)

Home 999 (upto 256kbps) - 22-27kBps (Day) / 50-55kBps (Night)

Speeds are doubled at night (10:50pm-6:50am) for the above plans; both of which come with unlimited data transfer. Upload speeds are around the same, except they're not doubled at night for the Home 999 plan if am not mistaken.

thanks a lotlooks like gonna get airtelhotwire used it for 2 years nowand they also started throttling speedsso no point paying more for a service which is available cheaper from airtelany other suggestions welcome...

Hi,I recently subscribed to Airtel BB. Earlier I had a Ut Starcom-300R2U ADSL Modem from BSNL Broadband. I also use a NetgearWG614v% Wireless Router. But I am facing issues while configuring the Wi-Fi in my house. When I use the Wizard on the ADSL Modem for PPPoE connection, it works perfect and I get internet on my laptop via Ethernect cable. But we are two persons staying, and use Wi-Fi mode to access Internet from our laptops. Below mentioned are the issues:1. I setup Bridge Mode in ADSL Modem using Wizard. I used G.Dmt as Modultaion and PVC0(PVPi-1, VCI-32) values for Bridge Mode setup. ADSL Modem IP is 192.168.1.1.2. When I use Wizard in Netgear, it detects the Internet connection as Static IP. And here is where the problem. Does Airtel use static IP for DSL connections? I have tried the a blogspot link by a person Sanjay, after searching Airtel forum here, but with no success. If anyone can please throw some light on this issue, and help me making set-up Wi-Fi with provision of allowing certain ports to be open for torrents. Thanks in regards,J a c k :)

Airtel uses static IP, in cases of Unlimited usage connection, and dynamic for others...and for torrent port -that need to be set in the adsl modem....

@Ashish: Cool man. You got it right. I am using a unlimted plan. Fine so far, so good. How do I go ahead with setting up Wi-Fi router? While setting up internet connection with the ADSL Modem, I did not gave any static ip. When I go for wizard setup in Netgear Wireless Router, it asks me to provide IP Adress, Subent Mask, Domain Name, etc(Sorry I don't remember the entire page detail). But ofcourse the Airtel techician had given 192.168.1.6 to my laptop and DNS server names. Any other inputs as how to go ahead and setup Wi-Fi?
