Last week I took Airtel Xtreme fiber connection and after using 7-8 days, today I will try to make a detail review on this and also I will make short comparison with Jio fiber which I was using since last 3 years.
Plan: ₹999+GST
Speed: 200 Mbps
I have shared the plan details below, please take a look.
First come to the installation process. Installation charge is ₹1000 but you can get it free if you subscribed for 3 months advance rental plan. On boarding procedure is same as Jio and completely online. You will get the connection within 24 hours. Connection type is postpaid by default but you can convert it to prepaid after 3 months. Alternatively you can ask Airtel sales person to give you prepaid connection.
The ONT Router that Airtel provides is just normal and most likely cheap Chinese made, just like Jio. I asked them to give Nokia or Siemens router but they replied that Airtel currently giving these routers only. Router firmware is completely locked and you can't make any changes like Jio.
But the most interesting part is if you have a good router then you can connect through Bridge mode and use your own router instead of Airtel's cheap one. I think this is the most preferable point to opt Airtel instead of Jio because Jio still not supports Bridge mode.
I will post detail guide how to activate the bridge mode in Airtel soon. In Bridge mode you will really get rid of double DHCP and NAT, also reduce the latency.
Like Jio, Airtel also have no caching speed, you will get full bandwidth domestic or International as per plan. But I have seen at least 10%-15% more bandwidth than Jio.
Let's come to the most important part that is latency. If I compare with Jio, latency is less in Airtel, maybe the reason that Airtel supports Bridge mode, they have moderate NAT etc. However I got average 20-24ms ping in BGMI while playing from mobile and 40-52 MS ping in PC(BlueStack). As per my opinion Airtel is better in gaming than Jio.
About the OTT package, if you take Airtel Xtreme Box then you will get free DTH connection with 350 live channels and also the OTT content as per plan. You can play the OTT subscription in any supported device by login with your RMN, Jio also have the same feature.
Now come to the conclusion, if you are a gamer and latency matters then I must say you go with Airtel, otherwise both Airtel and Jio have almost same to same in each and every aspect. One more thing I would like to add, recently Jio launched their new plans which will give a strong competition to Airtel.
Thanks for reading. If you have any opinion you can comment below.
