Don't at all compare Airtel IPTV Interactive with Tata(Sky+ for the sake of Time Shift TV.

Airtel won't be recording all the programs from all the channels it broadcasts anytime soon in the future.

You can't Rewind, Pause the Live TV.

On the other hand Tata(Sky+ will put you in total control of your TV viewing.

ok. let me correct myself.

you cannot for now pause live tv. but that feature is expected soon.

airtel already has 12 channels in time shift. that means i can watch ANY program on these channels any time without manual recording.

i just watched boston legal. that was freaking awesome. star world is in time shift. that alone makes airtel iptv worth it for me.

they are currently in talks with the broadcasters to add more channel. the thing is that they need permission to have 7 days of media company's data on their own servers. they need permission to do that.

tata gives u a limited space on your stb and you need to do your own recording!

with airtel, the more channels they add, the more powerful the device becomes for me. the possibilities are endless.

and airtel guy confirmed... as long as i am a subscriber. they are going to take care of the STB/Remote. unless of course i break it apart myself.

would Tata Sky do that for you after the warranty expires!

list of current channels which are in Airtel IPTV Time Shift!

Pause works only on programs you are watching from the past. Airtel is yet to enable the functionality on live programming.

Pause also works on Movies on Demand.

While watching the recorded programming, you can forward and rewind at 2x, 4x, 8x speeds. :) So if you want to catch an episode of Boston Legal, you can watch it in around 40 minutes skipping the ads.

Yes, thats why I wanted IPTV over DTH and cable. being IP based technology u can do almost anything. plus unlike DTH, IPTV wont be restricted by transponder space.but MTNL IPTV just didnt come up with sports channels and i had to go for cable

yeap. they are showing delhi aaj tak here in gurgaon. none of the dth companies have that channel in their offerings.

I accept that Tata(Sky+ has limited space in it's Set Top Box.But Airtel too has limited set of channels in it's offering.I don't think they will add much of the channels to their Time Shift TV feature. As of my knowledge many existing IPTV services in India such as MTNL or IControl are only able to add small set of channels to their Time Shift TV feature. So even Airtel Digital TV Interactive may only be able to provide Time Shift TV for FTA channels only.In any time and age IPTV's Time Shift function will always be very much limited comparing to Tata(Sky+ .FYI i am not even a Tata(Sky+ Subscriber :D

here i am. a fresh customer of airtel. being able to watch awesome channels like hbo and star world on time shift. with airtel guys actually promising me that they aim to have at least 40 channels in this section in a month's time. :)btw. it has only been a couple of hours. i am yet to start complaining about shite that irritates me. when i start doing that :D it becomes more fun :D

My point is not to complain/blame Airtel IPTV service.
My point is Time-Shifted TV is yet another feature of IPTV Platform.
So it can be tailored to more Life-Style and some other specific channels.
But DVR-Enabled Set-Top box is sole function of the purpose of Time-Shifted TV.

from what i see. airtel is providing an easier way to get access to older programming.

and the fact remains. iptv is not for everyone who needs service for his television.

it is for people like us who need both broadband and television services. :)

Post some screenshots Admin ...
check the first page of this thread?

what kind of screenshots you want!

menus and other stuff?

i guess i can do that later today. :)

about Tata Sky+

i thought about it. found it to be pretty restrictive of what i wanted. ended up going for iptv. and i think i made the right choice.

i just do not want to deal with dth companies any more. :(

well i have no idea how to connect it to my lcd so i am going to take bad quality shots from my camera and upload them here later today :)i hope they turn out to be fine.
