From my understanding of the subject, it is very similar to a wireless lan. If you notice there, we have different channels (1 - 14). If you notice there, the channels themselves are just 0.005Ghz apart.
However, the suggested recommendation is that the more the difference between you and any neighboring wifi, the better.
Now, back to the subject. If there is for any reason any kind of disturbance that that mhz/ghz range, it would make sense to slightly change the frequency. This would clean up any disturbances. However, if the cell tower is anything like a wireless
router, it should also be configured to listen to those frequencies.
The general understanding of the matter is the less number of devices on the same frequency the better it is as there are less chances of any other disturbances on that range.
Personally speaking, with a total lack of information on how it really behaves, I would imagine they have their towers listening to a varied number of frequences. As cell phones latch on to those towers, they will automatically ask the phones to change the frequency ever so slightly, so they can maximise loads on those towers while trying to maintain network quality.
However, all this will still not help with the indoor problem unless airtel puts up more cell towers. A pure 1800 range is good, dont get me wrong. But it will only help IF we have more towers. The only alternate I can think of is adding more 900 range towers within the 1800 circles to help penetrate walls around there.
Man I didnt mean 64K is awesomeness and 16 is bullshit, but everything depends on the frequency. The other day I was speaking with some techie guy from Airtel and he said that we usually "increase" the frequence of any particular card that is facing coverage problems.
I wonder what the hell that means. Update here if you get any info.
