goodevening everyone,An Airtel executive was filling the broadband form of Airtel for me...and he ticked option1- "USB Modem" instead of Option2-"ADSL Router". I am going for 725/- plan which has no monthly modem rental. Is there any negative point for going for this USB Modem option? Or is it such that with 725/- plan, i can only get USB option? Can i change this option now(on phone/etc) or later?-thanks.

umm just ask for the beetel 220bx thing. it works well for most of us. i think you would get the same.

Well it depends on your preference, USB one is good in case of power cut as ur net doesn't disconnect automatically but will stay connected till your computer is on or your disconnect it manually. Because for adsl you will have separate adapter for which you need additional power socket and that reboots it even when you have inverter. Now the downside, You have to login everytime you start your computer, whereas in ADSL it is connected the moment you start modem(but this is good only in case of unlimited connection)ANd one more main reason, ADSL router dont require any configuration of its own if you want to work in Linux instead of windows as it works as LAN. So they have there own benefits, its upto you to decide. Hope it was helpful to you :-)

and i thought the 220bx beetel worked as both.is there any airtel customer here who has a rented modem from airtel which is not that beetel 220bx?

thanks.. one more thing...will i be able to connect 2 PCs to this connection using this USB device by any method, if i have a Switch and lots of cat5 wires extra with me?-thanks.

use the modem as a router that auto login. get a switch. get network cables. and internet sharing is easy. platform independent as well.

Yes, i use a ZyXEL Prestige modem, provided by Airtel. Rock solid so far. :)

whoa. had no idea. all my friends have this beetel thing. even my relatives in delhi.

I used to use ZyXEL USB, but changed over to Beetel for port-forwarding + freeing up a USB port + not having to install drivers on every new computer. The only advantage of USB is like rider.royal said, it does not need another power source, and thus is very handy in case of power cuts! (that's actually something I miss).

Mine is an Ethernet ADSL2+ modem. ;) I like it because of a utility name 'Zyxmon' that gives me full control over it without ever visiting the homepage or even Telnet. :D It is pretty compact too.
