My Airtel DTH account was inactive since last 2 years. Recently I received a call and the person mentioned to return the Airtel Setup box as my connection was deactivated. I agreed to same. But today just to confirm if this was a genuine request I dialed 198 to talk to Airtel dedicated management team. And to my surprise they mentioned Airtel will never request for return and the set up box can be used as prepaid box for future use. This might be a fraud call.

Wondering if anyone in the forum has faced similar issue in past.

Well it was from Airtel only. Airtel depts are out of sync.
I too returned my 2 old HD box after 2years of usage and box not showing in app after sometime.
And i recd call again to either recharge or return the box.
Also recd too many calls to return the already returned fiber router.
They have booked shadowfax courier too twice.

Getting the similar kind of calls everyday to collect the box. The person from airtel side sound non-professional.

Where can we return STB ourself?
Any Authorized Airtel store accepts STBs which are not going to be used by Customers?

Got the call from Airtel DTH to return inactive STB so my DTH account can be permanently closed. I was getting many call from particular series but most were getting blocked by Truecaller. One call was not blocked and after I confirmed on call, I got SMS from Airtel that Technician visit is scheduled to collect STB.
Lady on call mentioned that only STB would be collected, Adapter and Remote is not needed and will not be collected.

yes, we also received a similar call today. We called Airtel and confirmed that they never take return of the setup box. But the fraudster booked a courier (ShadowFax) to pick it up from our house at Chennai. When the courier person came, we told him that it's a scam and we have confirmed the same with Airtel and did not give the setup box. He returned it with unable to contact reason....that fraudster is calls from no +91 80622 11288. Please do not pick these calls and don't fall prey to this scam

i think airtel also uses shadowfox, may be read somewhere on this forum. But its all out of sync even after returning they will keep asking to return it so make a video or something when returning.

Yep its not a scam. These box are hardly of any value except to airtel.

^ if those boxes were bit older wouldn't they be obsolete anyway? When we closed our vdsl connection they mentioned someone will be coming for the modem. I said since you don't give vdsl anymore that modem is of no use to you. Don't recall what they said but no one picked it all these years.
