/members/sagar-sahay/a)Always mention the modem model. (Is it ZyXEL prestige 630 ?) Does the modem has a LAN port to connect to Ethernet card in your computer ? (Beetel 220BX or Beetel 220BX1.) b)What is your tariff plan ? ( max speed available ).

Actually I havent taken the connection yet and dont know the modem model number, just wanted to know whether if u know of any person who is actually using the USB modem, and whether the USB modem is supporting skype because i when i took a demo for Reliance USb modem skype wasnt working properly. Airtel people have told me that the speed will be around 144-256kbps for USB modem.

Try BSNL EV_DO I think speed available is 2 Mbps. ( will confirm later)

Para two : Sorry . I am using BB connection through telphone line.
Usually these USB Wireless cards are meant for people on the move, to get instant connection
in their laptop, ( in most cities) and for convenience. or the mundane BB connection is not possible.

Airtel claim high speeds on these USB cards, but they never deliver those speeds..you might be able to connect to skype but the quality of voice chat not be good..skype uses a audio codec in which u need to upload and download at the rate of 80kbps consistently..as the data rate comes below 80kbps the quality of voice chat dips..and i dont think you are gonna get anything above 30kbps on those USB modem..Feedbacks about USB modems are not so good in this forum...users have reported slow speeds...
