I have been using BSNL Home 500 and I just took an Airtel 599 connection (1mbps/4gb limit).Ping times with airtel are ABSOLUTELY AWFUL.with airtel:average ping time to any west coast US server - 400-440msEU servers - 300-340mswith BSNL:US - 290-320msEU - 200-220msAirtel has no night time unlimited, and there's a FUP (dl speed goes down the drain after a certain limit)So basically, by paying more money, I'm getting a worse connection ?Am I missing something here ?

I still have the BSNL connection; I got the airtel connection for daytime usage; but it seems I'll be better off just cancelling this crap next month. No point really in paying more for a worse connection.I'm really not sure why anyone ever gets airtel; o well.

The ping in DSL is greatly dependent on "noise profile" the line is set to be it on Interleave or in Fastpath. If your line is set for interleaved then the ping will be noticeably higher. I am on Interleave and this is my result on ping a server on the West Coast of the US:Pinging 66.201.42.23 with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 66.201.42.23: bytes=32 time=303ms TTL=53Reply from 66.201.42.23: bytes=32 time=302ms TTL=53Reply from 66.201.42.23: bytes=32 time=303ms TTL=53Reply from 66.201.42.23: bytes=32 time=303ms TTL=53Ping statistics for 66.201.42.23: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 302ms, Maximum = 303ms, Average = 302msPost your results for the same and see if you get anything similar or lower.

Congrats, you have been fooled by Airtel. :|
Get that thing disconnected asap. It's useless. FUP sucks.

I've been using airtel 599 plan during the day (4 gig lim); and bsnl home 500 for downloads during the night.

Pings so far on airtel to USA have been 340-400ms; bsnl has been giving 285-320ms.

*right* now bsnl is atrocious (500ms or more to US), so I'm using airtel.

Both airtel and bsnl appear to have atrocious peering with AT&T going by traceroutes.

Here's a ping to a common US server cnet.com:

Code:
