Toshiba may pull plug on HD DVD format

TOKYO - Toshiba may pull the plug on its HD DVD business, the Japanese electronics maker said Monday, in what would signal the almost certain defeat of its next-generation video format to rival Blu-ray technology.
Toshiba Corp. said that no decision has been made but acknowledged it had started a review of its HD DVD business strategy. The company statement was issued after weekend reports from Japanese media, including Kyodo News, that Toshiba is studying a possible withdrawal from HD DVD.

its a sad day for us all. we all know how evil Sony is... now that they have won, we can be sure that the prices would go down very slowly. what would microsoft do now? release a blu-ray attachment for Xbox 360? sad day for all those people who spent money on HD DVD drives.the funny thing is that hd dvd player prices were as down as USD 100. i guess that was a sign that the format was doomed.
 
Sony notwithstanding , bluray was indeed a better technology than HD , it has more space because of a tighter track pitch
 
Good for all the ps3 owners! And once the prices of both the ps3 and blu-ray burners and drives comes down, good for the rest of us :)

And to the original poster, get with the hip lingo yo, it's blu-ray not blue-ray!! :p

why?????????????????????????????? where can one get the stats on both formats (sales etc)????
 
i know Sony has been acting silly with things like not playing/supporting mp3s until recently, after losing sales to competitors.but i have been a fan since i was a kid. just love all the technology they come out with...blu-ray definitely is the better tech and im glad its winning. at first even i thot hd-dvd would win because it was cheaper, so this is a pleasant turn of events...
 
I wanted HD-DVD. Toshiba still has not officially dropped the HD-DVD format!
