android lost is not an anti theft solution. it is more of a tech preview of what is possible with android platform. and it comes handy if you want to locate your phone in your home.

Sushubh....I got deceived by the notification "Installed" on the app market actually! I thought, its like the extensions. When an extension is installed on the browser, it shows as "Installed".@ Nishant - Something is better than nothing? :) May be, if we are a bit lucky (A "Bit", coz the bad luck only, wud lead to theft!), then before the thief is able to format, the app might communicate to the alternate number. And this has just brought a heads up for me - i have to be very careful in trains! Although i travel by 1st Class, but still, thefts have been reported from there too.Edit: @ Sushubh, Ok i read ur comment on "Anti-theft" thing.......

well. there are two ways of installing apps on your phone. one is directly from the phone's android market. or you can install from the website. but when you install something from the website, it just pushes the app to your phone over the air. and you need to have your phone connected to the internet to get those updates. so all these updates would probably be spooled together and delivered whenever your phone gets internet connectivity next time. if you want dedicated security apps, there are plenty available on the android market. lookout is a popular one i believe. but the fact remains, if you lose your phone, there is very little chance of getting it back. the best you can do is remotely wipe the device.

But, y dont u make this thread sticky? V have some POTENTIAL converts waiting to shift to Android soon. It might be helpful for them.Might be helpful for casual visitors as well, who are already searching for some reliable sources!

I am in the same boat as you, and being in the first class doesn't help much as the crowd is the same in FC and SC. The best solution I've found so far to avoid theft is to keep the phone in your bag and use a bluetooth earphone/headphone for conversations.

S2 is such a hugeass phone that you would probably keep it in your hand all the freaking time.

HAHAHA!!! Me too doing the same thing! Only difference being that i dont have any headphones/earphones - be it wired or BT - with it. I mean i have got a headphone but, i dont use it while in sheer crowding.

But still, these days, u have to be alert with ur bags too. U dont realise and the thief slits thru the bag to steal ur valuables. But i think, chances of this thing occuring in 1st class is comparatively lesser.

@ Sushubh.....

But u never know when ur hand hits some object accidentally, or someone hits it purposefully, and the thing u r holding, vanishes into thin air! This basically happens while getting into the train & while alighting it.

@ Nishant....

Hehe, it instantly reminded of what me & few others are doing now. When i see someone putting these kinda things into bag while going into stations, i just smile within, thinking that what desperation we have to show these days!

since i am planning to get the Galaxy nexus, i would probably have to switch from jeans to cargoes in the coming weeks.

Another resemblance! I actually bought 2 new jeans today! :D And when that guy was showing me jeans, i interrupted him to say "Tum koi bhi jeans dikhao, lekin usme mera ye fone fit hona mangta hai".....:DAnd yeah, v too r waiting for u to get SGN, so that v can hear some 1st hand reviews from u.
