you messed with the sys framework. in short you have soft bricked your phone. don't worry. just re flash it with the stock ROM of your phone's model. everything will be back to normal but you'll lose the data on your phone memory. i hope you have the necessary back up with you.

Install a custom recovery and take a nandroid backup to save you from this headache in the future.

strange problem. been facing it for a long time.when my phone is on vibration, during a call if i receive a message, the phone vibrates loudly!its very irritating. the phone should provide a beep sound and not vibrate.running froyo (2.2). any solutions?

Loud noise while vibrate!!! I guess something is wrong with the vibrate motor inside your phone. Get it checked at a service center nearby. Anyway you can download a ringtone which has only a beep and set it as the ringtone when you want and disable the vibration.

Or otherwise, you can install 'Quick Profiles' app and define the above settings in a profile and set it when you want. This would be easier.

Or is it a simple case where the vibration is creating "noise" on hard surfaces? I have heard only that noise till now from a vibrator, so i cud visualise only that!

thanks for the quick reply.there was a serious typo.the phone vibrates when i receive a 'message/sms' while on a call, the phone vibrates.

Well, in that case you can disable 'Vibrate on call' option from the 'Notification Settings' tab of 'Messaging'. I doubt whether this option is available across all android phones, I was able to see this option in Cyanogenmod7. Which phone do you have?

no such setting.

using stock android, froyo (2.2), on Galaxy 551.

not everyone uses cyanogenmod! :D

In that case, you should install a third party messaging app called 'GoSMS Pro' which is 100 times better than any stock messaging app. It has this option. After you install 'GoSMS Pro', you should disable notification in stock SMS app (in order to avoid duplicate notifications) and then set notifications accordingly under the settings of 'GoSMS Pro'.

Here is the exact place of this option under 'GoSMS Pro'.
Settings-> (Under 'Advanced' Tab)->Notification Settings->Default Notification Settings-> Untick 'Vibrate on calls'.
