Apple iOS

The features will be held back from the 4S most probably due to the fact that it will be the low end iPhone when the next iPhone & iOS7 launch. They won't give you all the features on the low end device. They need to give you a reason to upgrade or buy the higher priced devices. I remember a similar situation with the 3GS/4 with the earlier releases of iOS.
You're right. Although their loyalty to the customers is quite remarkable as 2010 iPhone 4 model which is very old device in terms of smartphone years standard will be getting the iOS 7. Not with all the goodies but still it is awesome.
I think that iPhone 4S won't be going to their low end device lineup. They will keep the iPhone 4 for a while & simply discontinue iPhone 4S from the production like they did with iPad. They are not offering iPad 3. Only iPad 2 is available for their low-end iPad.

But @Hardik7 most people will say that the features from one iOS to another is not great (like android) so it can be ported to older phone. But as of now i feel, the iPhone 4 is still a very capable phone and most apps and games work absolutely fine on them. One notices almost no or very very less sluggishness at all.

Lolz ya sometimes android fans do give silly arguments... Its not that older phones dont support the newer android versions... Its just that the update responsibility of most Android phones(except maybe the Nexus series) rests on the manufactures and they certainly dont really care too much about updating their older phones to the latest firmware... Hell even Google's record with nexus decices is very close to shitty... I bought a 3GS in Sept 2009 & a Nexus one in April 2010... My 3GS is still running the latest iOS till this date & it would really only become obsolete/unsupported around Oct this year more than 4 years after I bought it... My N1 actually became officially obsolete/unsupported in Dec 2011 when Android 4.0 was launched... Thats about just over 1.5 years... I had to w8 a few months for a 4.0 mod that supported N1 before i could upgrade but it wasn't without bugs.... Frankly speaking Android phones are not really long term devices... They are a bit like China products sold on the street... Just use and throw :( ...
PS I know the average Fandroid is going to be fuming with rage coz of my post & ready to tear me apart... I would just like to remind them before they enter their mindless rage that I am actually I big supporter of Android on the whole... Infact I have just bought the Zen Ultrafone 701(& love it).... But google are not without its faults & Android is not actually god's gift to mankind :P ...

Nope, I do not need to tear you apart. I am just going to state the obvious which you (or most people here) would ignore.

Apple iOS 7 would be available on Apple iPhone 4 and above. What does that mean? Nothing. Apple as usual has cleverly cut enough features on all of the older models… that having iOS on Apple iPhone 4 is nothing but a joke.

A gingerbread running phone can make third party apps default. The first Android model had support for wallpapers (iPhone 3GS does not have it). Siri? Navigation support? It does not really mean anything when your 2 year old phone running latest iOS update does not get half of the features of the new update.

Android was largely feature complete 2-3 years ago. After that we got visual improvements and some cool features. Apple iOS still does not have most of the features Android had 2-3 years ago. Probably would never offer some features that Android has offered since day one.

Here is a post you might want to read. You might not like it. But the reality is that Google has fixed a lot of shit with Android in the past year or so. And things can only improve from now on. Apple on the other hand… has started from scratch with their new UI while still catching up with the feature set on rival models.

Well basically, Apple does what WP did with older phones, bring in a namesake 7.8 to pacify them. If I am not wrong half the major new features did not make it to 3GS? And Nexus one has custom ROMs running 4.0.
This is apart from what Sushubh wrote above.

I now need to unsubscribe from this thread because it could get hot in here. I am sick of hearing about iPhone 3gs running iOS 6. My sister in law has it and she wonders why she cannot put my niece's photo as wallpaper on her phone. It gets really annoying really. I wish she had bought an Android phone for the 22K she spent on that phone back then. Even if the phone was stuck on Gingerbread, it would have worked well for her.

I guess while comparing updation of the OS by manufacturer / carrier, the custom ROMs should be excluded.
The earlier posts are not comparing custom ROMs but the manufacturer provided updated.
Can we please do that ?
@admin
You sure you cannot set custom wallpaper on the 3GS ?
I guess that should not be the case. I might be wrong though.
Edit: Just read somewhere, setting custom wallpaper was available from iOS 4 and also on 3GS. So i am pretty sure you can put any image as wallpaper.

nope. iPhone 3gs definitely does not have wallpaper support.
ok. i am not sure but it was definitely one of the missing features when ios 4 or 5 was announced. they might have changed that with ios6. no definite source to clearly find out the removed features in progressive ios updates for older models. Apple is clever like that.
