Apple iPhone

Sensor has access.. ok fine.. but how will sensor transfer fingerprint OR decryption keys to someone else???

To transfer any data to 3rd person they need to INSTALL some app too.

But there is no such APP as Apple would not allow such APP in Appstore

Hence this FORCED BRICKING thing as of now makes no sense to me.

All it looks like is Apple is fooling people.

Okay sensor issue makes sense ..I guess?

But why brick the phone?? Why not just disable the tocuhID and lock the phone. Why delete data?? its encrypted anyways. Just disable touchID to cut of access to data. Imagine having your baby's first steps in your phone and it bricks it without any warning

Phone does not gets bricked just after sensor replacement. Only TouchID is disabled. You have to either upgrade iOS or do a software restore for it to get bricked.

What if someone steals the device, replaces TouchID sensor? They can effectively bypass whatever security there is and make payments via Apple Pay. This might seem overkill to some but when bank and card details are involved, this is very much warranted for.

This has been in place since the touch ID came out and people have been reporting this for ages. The "unauthorized" tech repair guys knows about this particular error and what it will do to these devices ultimately, yet they repair it anyway.

I think the point to be noted here is that Apple just does whatever the fuck it wants without informing the end consumer about the consequences.

Do not mess with major components at your whim else your phone could stop working.

That sort of warning is what you're looking for?

No... But something like - If any component stops working or needs fixing, come to us, as only we have the rights and we will screw you. If you go elsewhere, well, we will screw you anyway.

You go to a repairwalla who has idea of what he's doing and when the phone ends up being bricked, Apple has to shoulder the blame.

Your phone is your credit/debit card, thanks to TouchID. Leave that part alone and get all the repairs you want.

Willing to concede that its repairwala's fault. But, I do hope they atleast put that somewhere where its apparent that tampering with TouchId may permanently disable the phone. Most people are unaware.
