Apple MacBook Updates

but the experience is not going to help you in situations where you are stuck with using windows applications.and if you end up using windows through boot camp, you would be paying for 2 operating systems. i might go for a macbook sometime next year or perhaps the mac mini if they release a more powerful edition in the near future just to get a taste of a mac. sometimes i WISH i was married just because, buying a second machine would have become a logical decision ;). currently i cannot justify buying a mac coz i already have that old desktop lying (with ubuntu)... i do want to use iLife to see how Apple office productivity suite compares with Office 2007.

There isn't anything on windows that I can't do on a mac.iPods/iPhones are my life. They will work better on a Mac.I have been so amazed by the Apple interface as I have been using the iPhone for a while now that Windows appears like a second class product to me right now.I barely use windows. Ubuntu gutsy has been my primary OS for the past few weeks now.I only log in to windows to sync my iPhone. If there was a Linux install for iTunes, I would remove windows altogether.Windows is so 20th century. Windows is old news.It will still remain the market leader for the next decade or two but the fact is Windows sucks big time.JMO.

Tsk.... I said let's not get into a PC vs Mac debate here. Before this page reaches 25 pages, can we just end it at everyone has their own choice, and yours clearly is Mac.So let's just stick to the topic, i.e. whether you should buy in grey or not. And the answer is No.THE END.

lol.Yeah. I agree with you. Buying a mac from the grey market would be a bad idea.btw, I was not getting into a pc vs mac war. I just think Windows is a piece of cr@p. Ubuntu on a PC is a fine choice.. :)

me? nope. it should work. i have a friend online who runs os x on a compaq... i just do not have the courage to go ahead with it and try it on my primary machine... i failed to unlock an iPhone last night. trying to install leopard would be impossible for me ;)

@d00by

windows is not a piece of crap :P I can argue endlessly but that has been done infinite number of times. so would just quote one of the highly ranked user comments that I read recently on engadget, it is not an exhaustive argument but a few good points:

Windows = an operating system that excels in a business environment.

Any questions?

I may use both platforms, but Windows has always been way ahead of the game when it comes to any business implementation.

Businesses do not want to retool their office equipment everytime a new computer comes out. There's a reason why legacy ports exist, so me, joe sixpack or corporation x don't have to upgrade if we don't want to at this point. Apple tends to throw off ports on their machines at random. The first rev macbook pro (the original conroe processors) didn't even have firewire 800. I don't know about you but shouldn't there be some consistency here? Powerbooks G4 Al had Firewire 800 --> then missing in the next rev?. I know I know they've solved the problem now, but there is clearly a reason why most corporations will never switch to an all apple lineup.

Windows may not be perfect, but when you want to maintain compatibility, you give up some stability and that's basically just what Windows is. Now we always get the random linux guy in here who says linux is ready for primetime, so I guess I'll get this out of the way.

Linux is great for servers, has rock solid stability, is supported by millions of people around the globe but lacks in the UI department. There are too many people in the linux community who want to preserve the archaic way of gpedit xconf.org (to get dual monitors working or another resolution) or randomly pasting commands to get other things working. I've talked to many linux zealots and the one fundamental flaw that exists in their arguments is just because they can open up the terminal and can get stuff working, well that grandma should and can do that too.

People want simplicity, but don't want to be locked down to one company that controls the hardware and pricing

People want flexibility, but don't want to be confused and be told to RTFM or look up the answer on a forum.

Windows isn't the best operating system, but it lands between two extremes in the computing world.

also macs are not perfect as it claims to be. Main Index: MacFixItForums
all this even as Apple is having total control over the hardware.

and also regarding iPhone its also the same... just the coolness factor and multitouch not really a smart phone. even the CEO of AT&T Mobility says that he uses a Blackberry for daily business and when he is on vacation he prefers the iphone.

Well for business today, the BlackBerry is my preference. For entertainment, the iPhone has no equal. You know, if I'm taking something on a personal vacation that takes my music and my videos, then the iPhone just has no equal.

bottomline: I'm not arguing that something is inferior or whatever.. its just that things have good points and bad points. If something isnt for you it need not be called crap :D and even more if 90% of computer users have it :)

P.S. @dooby have you used vista ? anyway nevermind

P.S.S. @vebmetal there is no fun in ending things like that :P

P.S.S.S. @ Sushubh you dont want to install that :D leopard is not built for compatibility ;)

What's the smartest way to buy a MacBook?
Don't :)

While I'm an established Mac hater for many reasons, the reason I would give you now is simply the fact that your Mac is going to fail (yes, just like a Dell or any other PC would) and you're going to need really good support. Support which will most probably arrive in a few weeks or not at all because of the extremely poor Apple presence here.

I'm pro Windows AND Ubuntu, if you already like Ubuntu, spend the money on a great PC instead. I understand your iTunes needs though, so if there isn't a LInux equivalent, guess that won't work for you. Tough s***.

Since you are going to buy a Mac anyway, the grey market is a bad idea, pay more, get an official piece, should be better in the long run.

Good luck!
Brian.
