I am taking a Asianet FTTH connection in Muvattupuzha(Kochi) and they've already came and did the wiring till my room. Tomorrow they'll bring the fibre modem(which costs Rs3700 or so!). I will want to know, whether we have a less expensive option for modem? Will BSNL FTTH modem works with Asianet one? The optical fibre is not under ground one but, is wired across KSEB Electric posts to the premise.

I hear some stds like GPON/GEPON support is needed. OR, is it "Fiber media convertor" that I should buy? then again, single mode or multi mode one? :O

They're providing you the ONT right?

It is a EPON ONU. unfortunately, these kind of devices are not available in mass market? perhaps some catv distributors may have the stocks for cheaper rate. but where in Kochi, I will find one?

Finally, took the FTTH connection from asianet. reliance jio 4G-LTE and FTTH will be also around the corner. Hope I can use the present EPON ONU for that connection, if I swaps. The brand of ONU is "net link".

Hello Prakash,

Do you have to log in each time you turn on the PC / mobile? Isn't there an automated connection feature, like how BSNL and other providers operate?

Yes. Unfortunately, There is no solution exists. I have configured a Wireless router for WiFi. Even with Android or iPhone, When connected to WiFi, browser(safari, chrome etc) opens with login page before connecting to internet. Also, external IP assigned is for 24 hours. Sometimes, it may be even longer. FTTH service seems fine compared to their crappy cable internet which is all mess thanks to Kochi Metro works.

Hello Prakash,

Could you please tell me it is indeed from Asianet. It looks like you are using some other connection and the Asianet Franchisee is acting as a re seller or some JV. Could you please send me more details through PM.

1) Speedtest.net result
2) A tracert and ping to google.com
3) A contact number or email id of the local franchise.
4) The available plans and their monthly cost.

I believe FTTH connections through Asianet Franchise are given with different plans which are not shown in their websites. This is a *pre-paid internet* service. No post paid options available with franchisee.

Yes, this is from Asianet and I've to login to Asianet web interface to enable connection. Often you're web browser redirected to open the login web page where you've to enter username and password (given). There's a private IP, subnet mask and gateway that needs to be configured on your router or PC to enable the connection (OFC cable reaches till your desktop, connected to a ONU. output through RJ-45).

I'm using Rs900 for 20GB @ 4mbps plan. there is a Rs898 plan that gives 2mbps till 20GB and 512Kbps afterwards. Initial cost is a little high. Rs 5000 for ONU (optical network unit) and connection charges. Rs900 as pre-paid tariff.

I don't want to reveal the franchisee details. Some Asianet franchisee's gives FTTH connections and it is available in many areas of Ernakulam district. I was also offered FTTH connection from Asianet directly (their tariffs may be different?).
OT: I wonder whether you're some khufia agent from Asianet asking so much informations ;) J/K
Here's my speed test result:
