I called them (BEAM) up again...they r gonna cum tmrw n check... but he said..."installation of box will take anywhr between 10-15 days"
...donno if i hav so much patience :P

Thats the time they take. And I would advice you to be patient and take Beam.

After you agree for a connection, this is how it goes.1. A company representative comes to take the money and give you the receipt.2. After the payment is confirmed, they enter your details and create your ID number and username.3. Box installation.4. Laying of wire to the box from the road.5. Joining the wire to the box which is done with precision as its a fibre.6. Laying a wire from the box to your house and activating the connection. For each one of these, theres a different team and so it takes time.

A friend of mine can't get a Beam connection because the company rep said its not feasible.Could someone suggest other alternate ISPs available in Hyderabad ?

^ Tell your friend to say to customer care that atleast 10 people are ready for beam connection in his area :P If you want speeds like beam, the only alternative is YOU broadband.Otherwise Reliance and Airtel as always.

Any others like this ? I remember reading about a couple more but just can't recollect the names of the those ISPs

I had called on Tuesday to get a connection on Saturday. They very promptly responded and told me I will be getting the connection. Then I received a call on Thursday that they were ready to install but since I was busy I told them to come on Saturday. When I didnt get a call today I called the same number from which I got the call on Thursday. And then I was told that some box is not available and it will take 15-20 days.Is this a genuine reason (if so, why was he ready to install on Thursday) or some lame excuse to hide another problem?

My best guess is they are really busy with connectivity issues..

I got an sms from Beam warning me about possible disruptions due to cable cuts.. due Ganesha Transportation and rains ....

When a box is not there, it usually takes 10-15 days for them to install it and complete the wiring. And I got the same SMS as LaysyDesi which could explain the delay as well.
