However lame the website may look, if you carefully notice, Fair Usage Policy is written only under certain tables and not all.

Yes... I did notice that... Under all the plans that everyone would want. But the point is that while they advertise an Fair Usage Policy on some plans, nowhere could I find it written that the policy is for a mere 25gb. Not even on the page that opens when you click the "Fair Usage Policy" link on the footer of the site.

Hence, interesting news.

Guys,

There isn't any Fair Usage Policy with BT Broadband Home User connections. I have been using it since last six month and never had any such problem.

Check out my recent usage ::imwink:

Present Connection : 2Mbps

March 2010 Usage : (118gb)

February 2010 Usage (78gb)

Beam Telecom Rocks..

Forget about all craps Airtel,Reliance etc :)

I think, like the previous poster said, it only applies to the higher speed plans. Though with this kind of usage, you'd be a pretty much perfect customer for us when we make it to Hyderabad :) How much are you paying for your 2 mbit/s?

I am presently subscribed to their half yearly plans... INR 5500/6 Months ...2Mbps Unlimited

Cheers,

I recently took 786kbps unlimited connection. From yesterday onwards I am getting download speeds around 30kbps. On calling CC he said that the fair usage policy has been implemented and that the limit is 25GB  Any idea what the fair usage policy is for other BB providers?

Finally Market for retail FTTH - Fiber to the Home in INDIA is evolving.. thats a bit of great news.. as far as new ISP players in the retail FTTH, FTTB market somebody above quotes Beam telecom (a category B ISP licensee for AP region only), thats good but I would like to watch out for RAILWIRE from Railtel corporation of INDIA (a category A ISP licensee for all of INDIA), recently they have also made a modest begining by launching railwire 256KBPS up to 32MBPS ISP services options on copper / fiber in the last mile. RAILWIRE is currently available in some parts of Bangalore, with plans to go national. I am told they are tying up with LCO's - local cable TV operators for the last mile access subscriber acquisition on copper / fiber.

I do have an information posted in this forum about on one of the local cable operators - ANAND CABLE NET, Anandnagar, Hebbal, Bangalore having a tie up with railtel offerring this service.

Cheers.. great to note that in this new age economy the average common man consumer in INDIA is really driving the bandwidth market.. I really expect the big boys like Airtel, Reliance & BSNL to push this Retail FTTH market by wiring up all houses with fiber, who knows some day fiber plants will over take copper plants in a big way similar to what mobiles outnumbered wired landlines...!!

Cheers again..

I am staying in RT Nagar in Bangalore. Is Rail tel still available?

Thats too bad .. :-). I was just getting started. First of all, lets accept it, every company is a b**ch :). When I got this new connection, I had confirmed atleast 5 times about Fair Usage Policy. Being in doubt is another thing, but these guys were like, "No Sir we are absolutely sure. No Fair Usage Policy on your plan". I kept wondering, how could this be true. Anyways, here's the deal now:

2mbps and 4mbps, FUL = 25GB , after that speeds would be 768kbps, 1mbps respectively..
6mbps, FUL = 50GB, after that speed would be 2 mbps.

Lets see what's your download capacity in each plan: (Don't ask me how I came up with these. You do the maths). This is assuming you pay in 6 months package.

1. 2mbps : 253GB : Monthly (Rs 916) : Rs 3.62 per GB (25GB @ 2mbps, rest @ 768kbps)
2. 4mbps : 321GB : Monthly (Rs 1375) : Rs 3.97 per GB (25GB @ 4mbps, rest @ 1mbps)
3. 6mbps : 638GB : Monthly (Rs 2291) : Rs 3.59 per GB (50GB @ 6mbps, rest @ 2mbps)

Looks like they too are good with numbers. :-)

You've divided the wrong way. According to those gb amounts, it would actually be between rs3.5 and rs4 per gb, not 26 paise - if you forget the local loop cost (eg, cost of the fiber & equipment etc).

I have some fairly complex spreadsheets for calculating my prices based on any factor I might be able to think of... I'd be surprised if they don't have the same.

After the fair usage limits (not sure for other plans), speed would be cut to older speeds. For e.g:
256kbps would become 128kbps
786kbps becomes 256 kbps
1mbps becomes 512 kbps

Sorry, My bad!! Corrected the numbers in original post. Thanks for correcting.

Assuming an average customer downloading around 30GB (lets say average of all customers). He ends up paying around Rs 30/GB. I guess this must be pretty profitable buzziness :D
