After the fair usage limits (not sure for other plans), speed would be cut to older speeds. For e.g:
256kbps would become 128kbps
786kbps becomes 256 kbps
1mbps becomes 512 kbps

Sorry, My bad!! Corrected the numbers in original post. Thanks for correcting.

Assuming an average customer downloading around 30GB (lets say average of all customers). He ends up paying around Rs 30/GB. I guess this must be pretty profitable buzziness :D

For him maybe. And if you think about what the other guys charge, considering their costs must surely be lower than mine, then other ISPs are (by that logic) committing daylight robbery.

If the average usage is in fact 30gb across all customers, then that would be awesome.

Still, once you factor in the local loop charges, then that rs30/gb is plummeting quite significantly.

We're keeping our margins a little thin at the moment in anticipation of our pricing going down as our usage goes up. But that's a discussion for another thread.

So, is speed no where in the picture? If you provide 1GB @ 8mbps or 1GB @ 512kbps, Would that cost same to you? But you would want to provide lesser speeds so that download capacity of user decreases. The lesser he downloads, the more he pays? Is that it ?

To put simply, yes, 1GB at 512kbit/s costs me the same as 1GB at 8mbit/s. That's why my service has data plans at 100mbit/s only.

The rest seems to be some serious jedi triple reverse logic and doesn't quite make sense?

But, if we're going to talk about my offerings, probably best that I don't hijack a thread about Beam Telecom any more than I already have.

Hey...im planning to go with beam telecom 2mbps unlimited connection , one of my friends has beam's 6 mbps unlimited connection Rs 2.500/month i was checking speedtest.net with chennai servers and ping is 40ms and DL/UL is 6mbps but when i check with servers outside india...speedtest.net with US servers ping shows 230ms and DL/UL is around 2mbps and my friend said he used to get good speeds with torrents but now sometimes he gets good speeds only with few torrents and sometimes he gets around 30KBps is there sometihing fishy ??

Hmm...I have a 2mbps connection...when I download from torrents i get around 200KBps but when I download from RS/MU I am getting speeds only around 60KBps...anyone else having the problem???

If you're using RS free, then they only let you download at 512kbit/s or about 60kbyte/s.

The ping to the USA is fine.

The DL is a little disappointing but not entirely unheard of - sometimes I get speedtest results of only 30-50mbit/s or so at the office to some servers in the USA (we have several Gbit/s available).

The torrent issue could be any of several possibilities: bandwidth throttling for torrent traffic, lack of seeds, many seeds but no upload slots, many seeds but they're all in countries with crappy broadband or Beam has oversubscribed it's bandwidth sufficiently enough for it to see slowdowns - and there are probably a hundred other reasons I haven't thought of.

I don't think so , I get 120+ kBps on a 1mbps line on RS free. I think the limit is 500 kBps .

Lucky you. I get 60kbyte/s on a 8mbit/s line on RS free, and I'm closer to Romania :D

Of course, my torrents stream in at 600+kbyte/s and I use those more than I do RS, so... I don't care so much :D

hello everybody,i've been a beam tele customer since march,2 mbps unlimited planin april, my bandwidth speed was throttled to 768 kbps after a download of approx 30 GBthis month, i've reached a download of 43 GB and now its throttled.i wonder what exactly is the fair usage limit???but mind you, i get 210 kbps speeds on torrent(with good seeders) and 200 on MU, but only 100-140 on RS and Mediafire.well finally i would say, i am satisfied with beam, no disconnection since 2 months, good speeds at a cheap price.....

Lucky you ..but it won't be any longer when you will also suffer like us :) Beam doesn't spare anybody :)For 2mbps plan FUP is now 50Gb (from May 2010)Earlier it was 25Gb for the same plan.Regards,Ujwol Shrestha
