ok.. so its clear from what you have posted that you need PPPoE mode, so could you post a screenshot of the STATUS page and the page where you entered all the details for PPPoE mode.. this is an ADSL wifi router right, you have inserted the telephone cable to the Belkin router..

This is the ipconfig/all with using an RJ-45 cable rather than USB network adapter. The connection type is PPPoE --->Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600](C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.C:\Documents and Settings\a>ipconfig/allWindows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : tn Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : BelkinEthernet adapter Broadband Modem: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin Description . . . . . . . . . . . : VIA Rhine III Fast Ethernet Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-15-E9-A5-70-F7 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, April 05, 2009 9:39:50 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Tuesday, January 19, 2038 8:44:07 AMC:\Documents and Settings\a>

I also tried changing the connection type to 'Dynamic' and used the dialer, but the dialer just gets 'stuck' on "Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPOE)" and then I get and Error 678 "The remote computer did not respond".

This is very unusual. Is it same for laptop ( LAN mode ) ? also
checking up.

1.Open Internet Explorer and on the toolbar, select > Tools > Internet Options, then click on the Connections tab.
Put a DOT in the Never dial a connection setting, click Apply and OK out.

4.dial on demand : UNCHECK

5. MTU: 1492 OK ( will lower to 1480 etc. later)

Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 ( or which ever IP you access ) now

Feed back please.

ITS WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow Im so happy!!!

Essbebe your final last post did the magic! I entered the settings that u given rather than auto by ISP and it worked! and also changed it to LLC and swtiched off dial on demand!

Fantastic I am sooooooo happy now thanks to all your efforts! i am posting this through wifi only :D

It took a while but finally success :D

One thing I noticed is that suppose a website doesnt open, a "OpenDNS" page opens acting as a seacrh engine? perhaps my DNS settings are through them then?

And just one last time, here are the IP Config settings that is working and ps. i have taken out the LAN cable and using the USB network adapter :)

Oh and one more thing - the speed seems to be a lot faster than before?!?! lol
I just did a speed test and getting 240 down and 200 up; this is the same as before but it LOOKS and FEELS faster anyway! JACKPOT!! :d :yahoo:

Glad to have helped.
I did see many forums for a solution.
Taken almost a week to get the solution !

Advice make a backup of present settings./ or screen shots
Also you can click the Scale'Icon" in my post.
I normally do not ask but you can say what you feel.

a "OpenDNS" page opens ......
a useful feature. OK. .

still "foxed" about the lease time !
will await for other's comments.

hey , glad you got it to work finally!!.. that took quite a while :).. About the lease time , you shouldnt worry , thats probably how its configured in the router . Probably 30 years is max :)

nine choices available !
Like most broadband routers, the Belkin can act as a DHCP server to allocate IP addresses; in fact DHCP server is the default setting. I liked that I was able to configure DHCP lease duration, something I am accustomed to from working with DHCP in Windows NT and 2000. With nine choices ranging from a half-hour to "forever," the settings are not very granular, but many products with DHCP don't give you any choice at all.

Thanks essbebe! I know you and superprash have put a lot of hard work into making this happen for me :-)And about the reputation thing, i already done that before only to you both :-)Oh and regarding the lease time thing, i have no idea what that means so no comments haha!!Wifi truly is a great invention! And yes i have made backups and taken screenshots of these settings now!!
